mother! (Darren Aronofsky, 2017)

Aronofsky's grammatically peculiar next film will open in October, stars his current squeeze Jennifer Lawrence

Cool. Most interesting tidbit from that article: Noah made $362 million worldwide. I had no idea it was that successful.

Anyway, the title implies that the movie will have a central role for Michelle Pfeiffer, and that sounds like fun news.

Aronofsky's movies have always had some kind of 'hook', for lack of a better term - some kind of mysticism or work routine (or both) that the films are centered around. Plot descriptions for this one have been so vague, I wonder what it's really about.

Notable about this as well is that this is Aronofsky's first film without Clint Mansell. Jóhann Jóhannsson will be handling the scoring duties.

I mean if you're going to replace your terrific longstanding composer, you might as well hire Johansson so no one will notice.

I wonder if this is going to be a comedy.

An extra from the film posted their impressions from the set online
Spoiler
It's apparently a film that involves a cult and the apocalypse, though the extra said this aspect might be part of a dream sequence

That does sound as if it could describe any Darren Aronofsky film though!

Love it (and no way the MPAA will sign off on that)

Release date pushed up to September 15th, the only trailer for the film will contain no actual footage

That’s somewhat worrying.

Not at all. France's release date is September 13th, my guess is the studio is moving this up at Aronofsky's request to preserve as much secrecy as possible for American viewers. I would anticipate this playing no festivals or previews beforehand, they're going out of their way to do something different here

Well, that wasn't so hard! Some footage from the film, and nobody got hurt. It's pretty damn eye-popping, too. Expectations are now sky high for either a great film or a fascinating disaster.

Noah was pretty banal, wasn't it? And I wouldn't necessarily classify Requiem for a Dream as either of those, it lies somewhere in the middle, a deeply flawed film with a good deal of positive attributes. But point taken, he does like to swing for the fences.

All I remember about Noah was that it was projected in the wrong aspect ratio in the theater and that I wanted everyone to die in the film even though I knew that wasn't going to happen.

I liked Noah a lot. It might be my favorite of his films actually. When I said that I thought The Wrestler would be brought up as the banal choice.
