Iran is considered part of Asia, so the answer is actually 1, not 0.

Two.

Don't forget Alexey German, from Russia. On past form, Dovlatov is likely to be the best film in competition, whether or not it gets any awards recognition. I haven't seen Garpastum, but his other three features are three of the best films of the last twenty years.

German is from St. Petersberg which is firmly in the European part of Russia.
(this is mostly to point out the absurdity of splitting Asia and Europe)

Matilda's Matilda seems to be the first title to be getting near-universal raves out of Sundance.

Oh, apparently there was a surprise screening of a restored Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story there the other day...

Perhaps he means Mandy? The acid trip with Nicholas Cage? Unless they've rebooted that Danny DeVito venture from the nineties I'm unsure what he means as well.

Debra Granik's Leave No Trace has been getting very positive reviews from Sundance, was acquired by Sony Pictures Worldwide for Int'l rights. US rights have not been determined yet.

Oh—very happy for Josephine Decker. (I didn’t even know she had a new movie on its way.)

That's actually the film that I'm most looking forward to - Cage and Andrea Riseborough in the new film written and directed by Panos Cosmatos, the director of Beyond The Black Rainbow!

It also has a great Neon Demon-style poster:

I'm certainly looking forward to it too Colin! I was sort of taken aback by some of the articles saying this years Sundance was a dud but actually looking at some of the reviews I'm more than encouraged at the release of several of these films. Surely no one is expecting Mandy to be high art but it doesn't have to be. I'll gladly sit and watch Nicholas Cage be himself if he's utilized properly (And yes I know how that sounds!).

The film I’m most excited about is The Green Fog by Guy Maddin and Evan & Gale Johnson, which screens out of competition.

Ah yes I was just reading about Mandy. Sounds like a blast. Hopefully Cage can have the comeback McConuaghey had (and blew when he decided to work with Gus Van Sant!) Can't find a trailer though. IMDB average is 8.2!

It apparently also has a score by Jóhann Jóhannsson too.

Touch Me Not, one of the worst-reviewed films out of Berlinale, has won the Golden Bear
