I can't believe how good this looks, but aside from that, Matt Dillon didn't finish his thought in the trailer!

This screens today in Cannes, right? I’m avoiding the trailer, but I’ve been simultaneously tentatively excited about this in general and mildly apprehensive about how far he’s going to take the subject matter. I don’t know that I can handle something more extreme than Antichrist, and the fact that even Cannes is apparently putting trigger warnings on the tickets for House is ominous.

It's ominous alright, but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the movie

Considering that anecdotally I've known far more women than men interested in gruesome serial killer media, I doubt those who would be into this will be deterred by The Very Concerned

I just find it disappointing that anyone went "Well, these adults may not have done their due diligence and looked into what this is, so we'd better print it right on the ticket that it might be upsetting." at the most gigantic film festival in the world. That said, it's not as if printing something on a movie ticket is any kind of gigantic leap through a ring of fire, I'm sure it was no skin off anyone's nose.

And Domino, you're absolutely right - I started supporting the excellently put together true crime podcast Sword & Scale on Patreon a few months ago and it is amazing how much women outnumber men in the comments on their page!

I can't imagine it'll be worse than some of the other things that Cannes has shown. I mean, speaking frankly there can be a sexual component to serial killer's crimes but unless von Trier doing hardcore inserts or something I can't imagine it being any worse than something he's made before.

I guess I'll wait for impressions until I make a judgement. We shall see what all the fuss is about soon enough.

I do like the implication from that trailer that he is actively trying to get himself caught (for the 'fame' implied by the song?) and the natural world is covering his tracks for him!

What time is it supposed to screen today? I assume it is screening right now as I type this. I'm really curious to see reactions

That answer's black&huge's question! Screening starts at 2:30 PM EST, so impressions should start tricking in around dinnertime tomorrow. Unless there's another one today, too.

Sorry, I must've not read your post very closely, and b&h was suggesting it screened today.

According to the Screening Guide, its first screening starts in 20 minutes; the ticket above is for the second screening, which starts at 8:30AM Cannes time (no need for coffee that morning!).

That's what my wife said - after initially professing interest in going to Telluride one year - when I described seeing five consecutive movies a day from 9AM to 2AM for three days straight (after the shorter half-day that kicks off the festival, when you can only fit in three or four showings at best).

These festivals really appeal mostly to those with equal doses of cinephilia and masochism.

Awesome. Looking forward to hearing a few things a few hours from now or even sooner because maybe people will walk out

International Trailer I don’t know. I watched trailer and it hooked me. In this time of over sensitivity I’m not going to pay attention to critics or Cannes audience members that get easily offended. I’ll make my own decision after I see it.

Obviously anyone tweeting about it now didn’t stay through the whole thing, so not necessarily representative, but here’s one: “”Gross. Pretentious. Vomitive. Torturous. Pathetic.”
