Having read a few reviews, von Trier‘s relentless misogyny, self indulgence and usual lack of much to say other than to troll its audience, will be probably more of a reason to skip this for me than its violence.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't, that was just another occasion where got to troll an audience.

Also called it von Trier's best. Speaks to this forum's clientele that it'll pass by unscathed without anyone accusing this critic of just seeking attention, but those who read the F review had plenty of vitriol locked and loaded

Actually I'm just as afraid to read reviews as most people are to see this movie.

Was the "clientele" bothered by the mere fact that it was a negative review or by the fact that the writing itself was childishly spiteful?

A four-star review??? What a freaking joke. I can’t stand these self-involved Slant writers giving out good reviews just to get attention.

Some users here, was just putting it strangely because it's a fun word to use. It's a good thing there's no sexism here, so nothing to worry about.

This just in: PETA defends and praises von Trier after receiving several calls about the animal abuse depicted in the film

I knew a guy who defended John Derek films with a passion usually reserved for preachers. So I can say wholeheartedly that this site is doing just fine.

Pleased to see the thing about the duck (Despite duck being one of my favorite meals.).

I must have missed the postscript where the Slant reviewer says that anyone who jumps into the comments to say they hate the film is a 'douchebag'.

If you're including me within the category of 'clientele', I should clarify that I mostly didn't mind Kiang's review at all – a bit of passion in film criticism never goes astray, and every critic likely enjoys the opportunity to do a good takedown now and then; and for what it's worth, I suspect that my response to the film would be closer to hers than to the Slant reviewer's. I just found that bit at the end a bit puerile, along with the suggestion (pre-emptive insult?) that only '#filmbrodudes' will enjoy it.

I like the third clip but LvT should get a tri pod and fixed lens. Might be good for his health too...

Probably way more than you imagine. Notably a few very prominent users.

I never quite understood the presumption that all users here are male, especially when referring in a post to users whose icons might hint otherwise.

Even if we had no female users, there is still no call for this forum to become the arthouse equivalent of RottenTomatoes comment threads under a mixed review of a Marvel movie.

Sorry if I offended anyone by not obscuring that, but also a bit sad that anyone lives or works in an environment which considers the image to be scandalous.

No offense whatsoever, different people have different thresholds to what they can open at work, and someone looking over your shoulder at a cubicle or something is not necessarily going to know the ins and outs of the marketing for Lars von Trier's film canon. Better safe than sorry, etc

The great thing about marketing for Lars von Trier's films is that it turns one into an amateur art critic! This picture seems to be based on The Barque of Dante (or Dante and Virgil In Hell) by Eugène Delacroix
