Loyalty is far, far from "a little." It is obviously worth it for him to stick to his, erm, Gunns - can't put a price on being able to sleep at night.

I'm a bit surprised Gunn's brother, a minor character in the series, is keeping so mum though. That might become an awkward family table for a short while.

Now there's an instance where someone reacting strongly to all this would have little to no impact.

Loyalty is an underrated virtue. It's why the end of American Madness makes me cry every time I watch it. What I'm saying is, remake American Madness and cast Bautista as, I don't know, the bank?

I think we can safely say no. Also Bautista as a Capra hero is something I never realized I wanted so much before.

I should hope everyone has a James Gunn in their life that they would quit Guardians of the Galaxy 3 for

This is already settling down.

Gunn is in high demand for other blockbuster films, his Guardians of the Galaxy 3 script will be used for the film, and he's still in negotiations to either be paid a lump sum to leave the script behind or return to direct it after all

As I strongly suspected it would. Disney world be foolish not to use at least the meat of Gunn's script in the first place, though I would be a bit surprised if he ends up being the sole credited writer. But who knows, by 2020, this could all long be forgotten.

I think it would be fun to see Gunn tackle a DC film, maybe even a Justice League film, or at least one with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. He's obviously got a knack for groups of heroes, after all.

Or maybe literally anything else than another superhero movie.

...yet

This is going to play out for awhile longer until Disney can't stand the heat and hires him back.

I doubt it. This was likely an effort on Disney's part to be able to show that they were willing to hear Gunn out, and come back with their final decision and move on to hiring someone else. Likely someone a lot cheaper.

That article says he's only writing and not directing at this point.

Sorry, I kind of jumped ahead to the finish line, the article says "with an eye to direct" and that almost definitely means he would direct it if he winds up liking his own script, I have to imagine DC is thrilled to have him in the fold for that project in particular after seeing how he spun gold out of Guardians of the Galaxy, which the first Suicide Squad was definitely aspiring to be on some level

Yeah, it's definitely an overall amusing development, regardless of whether Gunn directs the film. I'm sure Disney is royally pissed at WB, which makes it even sweeter.

The Onion is catching some heat for this one: Disney Rehires Director James Gunn As Part Of Company-Wide Push Towards Embracing Pedophilia

I think it's pretty funny, what are you gonna do
