I imagine it's to accommodate the alternate cut's Venice premiere.

They haven't released the schedule yet, and I think they generally do so late because everyone's schedules surely are crammed between this, Telluride, and Toronto. So, I don't know the specific day it'll screen, but I gather Criterion just opted to slot it the first Tuesday after the festival's end since I don't know if the programmers even know when it's to screen.

Just got an email from Amazon saying the release date has changed. It lists Sept. 11 as the “estimated arrival date” now. Maybe to follow the premier?

Edit: just read the last several posts and see this was figured out already.

What the...?

skimpy review of the extended cut. If you can even call it that:
" I have now seen the new extended version of the film and I feel that my satisfaction with the theatrical version is even stronger."

He probably didn't watch it. It wouldn't be the first time.

It at least does look like he was too lazy to go into some details about the differences between the 2 cuts.

The review has the Shinning. MZS would probably be amused.

All Things Shinning, Part 5: "The Tree of Life" - presented here is a video essay by critic Matt Zoller Seitz and editor Serena Bramble, which was created in 2011 for Museum of the Moving Image in New York.

Don’t be silly. Dr Svet never, ever gets anything wrong, and since he wrote Shinning that’s what he meant, and it ill behoves an insignificant pipsqueak like you to suggest otherwise.

Yet another review that offers no insight about the extended cut. This guy isn't even a Malick fan. He calls the Thin Red Line mediocre and The New World disappointing.

Is he wrong or something?

Wasn't aware you had to like those two in particular to be a fan of Malick.

I suppose not. I suppose you could just like Badlands, for instance, and that's it (there are many, it seems, who fall into this category).

One could then wonder if you're a fan of a director, or just of this one movie he made.

I used to be a fan of Malick. As I haven't like a film I've seen of his since the extended cut of The New World, it would hardly be fair to still count myself as a fan.
