It only occurred to me to do it because the thread was bumped at the same time as the one for The Glass Shield. I'm not that passionate about it one way or the other.

Does the BFI still have the rights (or is that why it's OOP)? With this restoration out, maybe a reissue is feasible?

Given Criterion's recent post on this and heavy speculation elsewhere, I'm gonna go ahead and call this one

My father-in-law produced this film (no, he's not Edward R. Pressman, although it would be nice to have that guy's money...) and he hasn't been
informed of it being acquired by any DVD label in North America right now, but he'd love to see a Criterion release.

Then again, Sony never gave him a heads-up about the digital restoration, although we did go to the screening of UCLA's new 35mm print of
it a while back. As you can probably imagine, it's sadly not a title that's ever netted much of a profit, and Sony wasn't even really aware that
the rights were with them for many years.

I hope Burnett's excellent 2008 feature Namibia: The Struggle for Liberation gets the Criterion treatment as well; it never received a commercial release, and has only had a handful of museum screenings in the States.

Sony has "restored" To Sleep with Anger and it seems likely to be headed for home-video (re)release sooner than later; I wouldn't be surprised to see Criterion release it. It's Burnett's best film IMO.

I met Burnett recently and he said Criterion was interested, but he would prefer Milestone to get it, because of their help with Killer of Sheep.

I love Milestone and hope they could get it, but considering how small their operations are, can they afford to license a film from Sony?

I wonder if Milestone will ever release a Blu Ray of Killer of Sheep...

I noticed it on the Park Circus site recently, listed as a Sony restoration. I guess if Criterion do get it, they'll release it in the UK as well. If not, perhaps MoC or Indicator will pick it up. The BFI DVD has been OOP for a while now.

I attended the Ebertfest screening of this, and it was announced before the movie started that Criterion would be recording the Q&A with Burnett and Robert Townsend. So "(Probably)" no more.

What a long strange journey it's been for this film to get the much-deserved wider audience a Criterion release will bring. Can't wait!

Hot damn! I live in Champaign but had to attend an out of town banquet tonight (will still catch Varieté tomorrow!). Needless to say I'm jealous... I'll have to settle for my first viewing being the Criterion disc.

Confirmed via the newsletter clue (cue "Criterion is releasing Inside Out!" on the Blu-ray.com forums)

Oh, that was the character Anger. At first I thought it was a frog.

Could just be a Peter Gabriel music videos collection (which, actually, I would probably buy...)

This is a great opportunity and I hope in addition to interviews with the cast and crew they include some stuff on the film's relation to black theater and religion and some stuff on Burnett and Glover's followup

I met Burnett after a showing of this around a year ago, he didn't seem sure if it would end up with Criterion or Milestone. Really glad that has finally been sorted out, I absolutely love this film. The restoration looked spectacular by the way, and I imagine this will be an excellent release.

A Walk with Charles Burnett, a new hour-long conversation between Burnett and filmmaker
Robert Townsend that revisits Burnett’s films and shooting locations
VERY intriguing extra! Townsend gets forgotten these days but he was a key force in true black independent cinema in the 80s. I can't wait to hear what he has to say about and with his contemporary via this avenue

It was much more satisfying to sell it for $100 last year

I've put off seeing this for much too long. Looks like a great release.

This feels like their most vital release in years. Maybe since the Les Blank films?

This is both my release of the year and the most excited I've been for one since Chungking Express. I'm so glad this has got a street date, it'll be a day one purchase for me.
