I JUST got the current Optimum. But, it`s only like my favorite film ever, so I might think about it. If they were to include some Kassowitz shorts, it would be a definite buy, but since I have the Disc 1 and the soundtrack...might not be absolutely necessary to upgrade.

Argh, I just got this as well (literally it came in the mail yesterday). It seems like the transfer should be the same though (the disc was produced in 2004) and it already has the commentary, so all you're missing is the documentary.

The extras look pretty meagre compared to the French 3-disc edition:

But of course that edition doesn't have English subtitles, whereas the UK editions all appear to have the subtitles burnt-in. Regionalisation by subtitling?

The Kassovitz shorts have been released as a box set in France, which is probably the only way to get them. But again, no subtitles:

I read a review that the 3 disc edition has removable subs on it,
while dvdtimes' review says electronically non-removable.

I havent received my disc yet. any difference?

The 3-disc edition has burnt in subtitles. They are not removable. I have not yet seen all the extras, but the above statement is true of the film itself.

There's an upcoming Spanish special edition which has optional English subtitles, a DTS track and a second disc of extras. The extras look much the same as the UK ultimate edition apart from the commentary and the audio CD:
