I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. Thanks for posting the pic, hammock. It's nice to see what all the fuss is about.

I don't know that that's so bad...its becoming a trend that many cd box sets are packaged this way.

I think my favorite way of packaging the double discs is the single-wide spine with swinging tray inside. Is this packaging the width of a single disc?

Yeah, if they need to include a huge booklet that doesn't fit the alpha double clips, I'd just as soon prefer they went the slipcase route (either with a digipack like Short Cuts or Slacker or with a standard alpha case like Burden of Dreams or The Man Who Fell to Earth).

In theory it isn't, but unless the booklet is thick enough to apply pressure on the discs, and thus stop them from spinning, the potential is there for the bottom disc to do some scratchin' on the top disc.

Plus as Hammock says, and this is the crux of the matter, the case does feel oddly hollow and cheap.

Ergonomics out the window! Fyi, the reissue of Traffic comes in the same case though I'm sure there are and will be others. Believe me, they are not user friendly. I'd like to replace them with double Aphapak DVD cases but Sleeve City only sells them in packages of 10.

The empty-feeling of the case itself might suit better for an Antonioni film than a Ford.

Well if they do keep using them, and keep releasing double-disc sets, I don't really see an issue with buying them in bulk.

Frankly, I am hoping they will discontinue using them, and they just might if we email our complaints to you know who...

Okay, USPlastics sells Aphapak II DVD cases by the each at unbeatable prices. Inserts sold seperately.

Follow-up: Do not buy the Aphapak II cases They are utterly useless.

For those of you wishing to replace the unfriendly DVD cases that came with Young Mr. Lincoln and the reissue of Traffic, or any forthcoming titles using the same case, I highly recommend the Double DVD Case from Meritline. Excellent prices and prompt service.

I just ordered 25 of these cases from that site. Shipping was pretty expensive (almost as much as the cases themselves), but if they're nice, it'll be worth it. I hope they work out.

I'll let everyone know if they're worth it when I get the order...

The double DVD cases are exactly the same as those used for most of the recent Criterions (Harakiri/Ran/Wages of Fear). I ordered a 10 pack of double DVD cases plus a 25 pack of clear DVD cases and shipping was $7, which didn't seem like that much considering that my order arrived within a couple of days. Not to mention what a relief it is to open them and not have to deal with the offending cases that came with Young Mr. Lincoln, Traffic, etc.

Considering where you are, gig, you might want to add something else to your order since I doubt the shipping will increase all that much, but you'll have to give it a try and see for yourself.

The 25 cases were $15 and change; the shipping was $11 and change for UPS ground.

I thought that was a little much. But if they're as good as you say they are, I'll probably end up ordering more.

As I said, they are the exact same cases that Criterion was using for two-disc sets prior to Young Mr. Lincoln. And I agree, your shipping seems rather high, but then you must be farther away from them than I am, and I also added 25 single DVD cases to my order which didn't change the shipping all that much. Since Meritline is in City of Industry near LA and I can probably pick them up in person next time I'm out that way.

You were right, they are perfect. Have you ordered single-disc cases from there as well? Are the single disc cases the black one that usually come with Universal or Paramount DVDs, or are they the gray ones that usually come with Warner or Criterion DVDs? Let me know...

The batch of single cases I bought from Meritline were clear, though their single disc cases look fine, I don't think they are what you want. Me either. What you want are either Amaray or ALPHApak cases which are available from from Sleeve Town.

Frankly, I'm not always right, but I was certain that the double cases from Meritline were exactly the same as those used by Criterion.

I think this double Alphapak from Sleeve City is the same one we bought from Meritline, n'est ce pas?
