Does this mean that the Criterion Channel is only live on the computer? I searched my Roku for "The Criterion Channel" and nothing comes up?

Might be until it goes live.

Edit: From the website:
The Criterion Channel will launch April 8 in the U.S. and Canada and will be available on desktop, Apple TV, Amazon Fire, Roku, iOS, and Android devices.

Signing up to be a "charter member" on criterion.com apparently was only for the purpose of generating an email list to send out today's communication.

I created a new account on criterionchannel.com, and subscribed for the reduced rate.

apparently if you download the vhx app on appletv, roku, or wherever else they have one you can login and watch the movie of the week now as well.

The VHX app also supports offline viewing of Criterion Channel content.

Checked out a few minutes of Mikey and Nickey. Ran wonderfully smooth, and I love having the resolution option - beautiful, full grain! Really looking forward to having this all back in my life, i've missed it.

Looks like no Chromecast -- which was what I used for Filmstruck. :-(

You may not be able to watch from a Chromecast app, but hopefully one of these two solutions work for you.

It says the one month trial will start from April 8, but it wanted to charge me $9.99 beginning March the 2nd!

I'm assuming they still have original dates built in and are going to fix that, otherwise they'll have a lot of very angry people on their hands. I wouldn't worry about it(?) but I guess YMMV on what an erroneous charge might do to your chosen payment method at that time

Glowingwabbit wrote: Wed Jan 30, 2019 8:53 pmYou have to create an account because it's a new subscription and they'll need your payment information. It only gives you the charter subscription price when you do so you're fine. I just created one myself.
Thanks! I couldn't remember if I'd already filled that stuff in back when I signed up to be a charter member in the beginning or not, but it sounds like they weren't collecting that info yet.

Thanks for this. Do you know if I'll be able to log into VHX with the email and password I used to set up my Criterion Channel account or do I have to create another?

I think that's the idea - your Criterion Channel account is a VHX account. Correct me if I'm wrong though, I haven't tried yet. But the account confirmation e-mail re: setting the account up that I received came from a VHX e-mail address

Shout bought Westchester films who have several titles licensed to Criterion. Shout may have the streaming rights to those titles.

Are the films of the week only available for a week until the next one comes along? Also, I see no option for subs/captions.

Ooh this is superior in one respect already, extra features remember where you were if you stop them (as I did last night) and then put it back on, as I did a few minutes ago. On filmstruck, special features never resumed, they always started over.

Please please please include subtitles at least in the main feature.

There’s a subtitle section in the VHx faq, so it’s probably there already, at least on a computer, but it might not be very accessible on other devices yet.

Odds are that one of the next movie of the week will probably be non English, so most of us will get to find out how subtitles work on vhx very soon

From Bordwell Blog:
This coming Wednesday the next Movie of the Week is….well, let’s just say it’s one of the most popular offerings on the Criterion channel, and now a very rare item on DVD.

I’m gonna guess The Third Man.

I was thinking Grand Illusion, but either would fuel speculation on the Studio Canal thread.

I could be reading too far into it, but she does say DVD and not disc. So perhaps an OOP that never got the upgrade?

Did we ever get an answer about how long these weekly additions would stay available for until things get real in April?
