Arrow Booklets: An International Tragedy

#1 Post by domino harvey »

Since Arrow’s limited edition booklets now have the shelf life of bananas, please use this thread to inquire about the current booklet status of various Arrow release. Please do not bring missing booklet matters into the dedicated threads (though feel free to use those to discuss the contents of the booklets). Mods will update this first post with the current year’s releases’ booklet status as needed, but feel free to bring any year’s releases/booklets into discussion here.

Arrow Booklets: An International Tragedy

#2 Post by neilist »

As part of their 10 year celebration, Arrow seems to have begun inserting promotional '10 years of Arrow' stapled booklets inside their releases.

So, anyone going to a highstreet store and trying to determine which releases still have the limited first pressing booklets inside, beware. It might simply be a promotional booklet inside.

So I’m not the only one wiggling and weighing sealed blu-rays at the shelves!

Ha! Judging by our location, we're probably doing it in the exact same store too...

This seems to be getting ridiculous. I picked this up in store in Fopp today and it has no booklet already! All of the copies weighed about the same in hand. All just contain a 10th anniversary celebration booklet instead.

We need a bit of transparency about number of copies with booklets.

Agreed. Indicator and 88 FIlms play fair, Arrow does not.

I feel like they're heading more toward opacity of late. Would be great if it were otherwise.

I picked up The Iguana with the Tongue of Fire this weekend and that is also missing the booklet - despite only being released nine weeks ago! I wonder if Arrow have pressed up a few runs with only the 10th anniversary booklet just for this promotion? I also picked up some older releases, but have yet to open those.

I also bought it at the weekend (Fopp Cambridge) - and got a booklet! Seems Arrow have introduced a lucky dip element to their marketing.

Just received my DiabolikDVD Arrow order and THE POSSESSED & THE FIFTH CORD have the booklets but HORROR EXPRESS does not which I assume would be the case for the latter with the popularity of such a Lee/Cushing film.

I think only the Audition steelbook came with a booklet. The pdf is available on the website though if you log in to your account [is there a list of these anywhere?].

Really? I didn’t think they’d followed through with that. If there are any others it’d be interesting to know.

The Audition steelbook was a UK release, whereas the one Diabolik are selling is the new US edition that came out in February of this year.

Can we just have a separate Arrow Booklet Investigations thread?

I usually check when I watch a disc where my copy came without a booklet (I think only a handful so far for me, but I haven't bought too many '19 releases yet). From memory, of those I checked, it was only Audition where the website had the Members section on the product page which has a link to the pdf.

I picked up 5 gialli from Diabolik -

The Iguana with the Tongue of Fire
Strip Nude for your Killer
The Possessed
Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above Suspicion
The Fifth Cord

Only Strip Nude for your Killer was missing a booklet.

Thanks kuzine, I guess their uploading of PDF's is as consistent as the existence of booklets in new releases. Can I nominate this thread title as best-named coralling of spurious threads for the year?

Unless it was a duplication of the UK ad copy over on Amazon for the US edition of Audition it says "FIRST PRESSING ONLY: Illustrated collector's booklet featuring new writing on the film by Anton Bitel" hence my surprise when my Diabolik order arrived. I did just get the pdf from the website tho. Has anyone tried emailing Arrow before buying to ask if the first printing has sold out?

I bought Dillinger, Rage of Honor, Pray for Death and Bloody Birthday during the recent Diabolik sale (May 21st) and all came with booklets except the most recent, Bloody Birthday.
