Season 3 is incredible on all accounts, and without spoiling anything it bothers me that Anna Torv appears to have been resigned to parts of austere women for future roles as if nobody bothered to watch this season, which reveals a range even the most creative minds couldn’t have fully predicted

Lysergic Acid Diethylamide is my pick for how intelligent this show can be, especially pertaining to merging sci-fi with realistic psychology processes

It’s crazy because at the outset Torv wasn’t really given anything to really do by the series except sort of look like Cate Blanchett’s younger sister and by the time they throw her in the deep end she inexplicably swims the hell out of it and the only response is “Why is she not in more things?” I’m still bitter that the HBO series with her and JJL as a lesbian couple wasn’t picked up— can you even imagine?

Since Brown Betty is probably my favorite episode of the show so far, I was pleasantly surprised when Letters of Transit emulated noir in the opposite direction of time, homaging the dystopian future noir structures of obvious popular films but staying grounded to the human component. I’m finding that my favorite episodes of this show aren’t in step with common opinions (though many of them still wind up somewhere near the back of ranked eps), so I’m hoping there’s at least one more creative explosion in the canon for the final season.

Sweet, and of course S5 E1, Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11, is my favorite forward momentum narrative ep yet with the best ending the show's produced thus far. tenia,

Finished this earlier today and thought it was a solid show overall, with a great ending. I liked the fifth season probably more than most, even if it definitely dragged at points, though I also think season four was the weakest (there's nothing worse than confusing stuff happening and realizing that you just don't care enough to parse out what's going on). I admired most of the reveals towards the end, and appreciated the methods the show took to thematically celebrate emotion as humanity's greatest asset and what makes life meaningful. I get the feeling that doing a full revisit someday (sooner rather than later to pick up on all the details, which I'm not likely to do) would flesh out the earlier seasons' anthology ep components into greater significance. Although the third season as a whole is terrific, the show really comes alive in its experimentation

only reinforcing my thoughts that the show would have been much better if it took its creative potential executed in Brown Betty, Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, and Letters of Transit and used it more liberally in a playful vs self-serious narrative manner. Still, I agree that it was worth the ride and give it a confident recommendation.
