That's George Washington .
zedz, I think in this case it was actually MORE polite to interrupt than to let the thread awkwardly flounder. The answer to "Excuse me, I heard singing" is Rififi . I will make the next one much easier:
"Isn't life disappointing?"

I know this one, it's from the upcoming Criterion box set of the popular TV game show "Ozu or not Ozu?"

You're right! Amazing! And that title hasn't even been officially announced! I just hope they can obtain the rights to "Carl Dreyer's Changing Rooms" (that's the one where they go round to people's homes, strip out all the furniture and paint everything white).
Here's a real quote, and an easy one (though I can't vouch for the spelling):
"l'oiseau chant avec ses doigts"

Actually, nobody got "L'oiseau chante avec ses doigts" which is from Orpheus.

Okay, since McGeeIng left a blank, I'll jump in with a really tough quote:
"The fact is, the Earth is falling into a well."

Dunno about 8 1/2 ; I'd just assumed McGeeIng was correct with Slacker . If it is 8 1/2 , then Michael, please feel free to post a different quote, especially since mine seems to have killed the thread. (I feel like David Warner in Straw Dogs . . . I meant only to touch the thread gently!)
Meanwhile, here's two hints on "The fact is, the Earth is falling into a well": it's an English-language film, and the actor who speaks the line is now dead, and so is the film's director.

(I don't know the film that quote belongs to, but I'm tempted to buy it just to hear someone say that line...!
BTW, best quote EVER on this thread!)
