I would imagine that Karim Ainouz' Un certain regard winner INVISIBLE LIFE is a strong candidate for a Criterion release à la COLD WAR which didn't receive a physical release in the U.S. Or at least I am hoping!

You know, now that I think about it, Macon Blair's shaggy I DO NOT FEEL AT HOME WITH THIS WORLD ANYMORE was a gem of a rural/suburban noir, shambling along in inventive and realistic ways, very much like a Joe Lansdale book, but without the crude humour and annoying smart-assery that he feels compelled to insert into his work. I would love a physical Criterion release.

The Highwaymen would make a nice release on physical media, again maybe not Criterion but somewhere that can fill out a disc with documentaries and such relative to the story and period itself would be cool.

I just rewatched Gimme Danger this evening. Could we ever see Criterion ever releasing this? I know Amazon only distributed it, and put it out on a DVD (in 2016 which is odd).
I think it is intoxicating, even if one isn’t a Stooges fan. Of the later Jarmusch films, this is definitely my favorite, and having an Iggy Pop interview on the disc separate from the film would be a treat.

Jarmusch has stated that as he regains the rights to his films, he offers them to Criterion for re-release. His relationship with the label seems to be a good one, but it appears the rights to any given film need to revert to the director first before a Criterion edition is planned. I wonder how long Amazon will be holding the rights to Gimme Danger? I attended the Detroit premiere of the documentary back in 2016 which featured both Jarmusch and Pop doing an introduction to the film and a follow-up Q & A. I have no idea if the Q & A was recorded, but it was great fun.

The copyright for Year of the Horse is credited to Young's film company ("Shakey Pictures, Inc.") so that's probably the case.

It only just struck me that Small Axe has to be a dead cert for a spine, right? Cannot imagine Criterion passing on it and have to imagine both the filmmakers and Amazon would like the profile a release gives them.

Considering they've released Kirsten Johnson's first feature, I can't imagine them not releasing Dick Johnson Is Dead, one of 2020's most universally acclaimed films.

Call me crazy but I only see these releases of contemporary "art" films growing in number over the years. I sometimes wonder if criterion will become the place studios send their award pictures for physical release. Wonder where the Disney blu of Nomadland is? :-k

We're returning to the late-period of Criterion laserdiscs where Shine and The English Patient were in the collection. One Night in Miami looked exactly like the type of award film that the Weinsteins used to promote. Though I am curious about the Garrett Bradley film.

It's the only one of the three I've seen, but Sound of Metal is a worthy inclusion, and I hear great things about Time

I've seen all of them. Wasn't the biggest fan of Time but actually really liked both Sound of Metal and One Night in Miami, and am very happy that I'll be able to own them.

Hopefully this bodes well for Steve McQueen's Small Axe films which I think are with Amazon in the States. Here in the UK, the BBC did them a terrible disservice by releasing them on DVD only and with compression that's unimpressive even by DVD standards.

I haven’t seen any of the trio of confirmed titles, but Miami checks both of Criterion’s boxes for priorities in its director, so a no-brainer there, and Sound of Metal has been highly acclaimed and is also a likely multiple Oscar nominee in a few weeks
