I can't decided if i like the new seven samurai cover or not, its certainly a lot more daring than the old, predictable cover.
I'm praying seven samurai (3 disc set) is a 3 disc digipack ala Battle of algiers rather than a clunky plastic 3 discer ala the Leopard.
EDIT: Or even better a 3 disc digipack ala Ugetsu or Fanny & Alex, which are the ultimate classiest and most beautiful packaging, IMO.

Ditto... although, I think it's unlikely that they'll do a Leopard/Scenes from a Marriage type case. They haven't done one of those for a while. All of the 3 disc sets in the past year or so, as far as I can remember, were digipak... I assume Seven Samurai will be too.godardslave wrote:I'm praying seven samurai (3 disc set) is a 3 disc digipack ala Battle of algiers rather than a clunky plastic 3 discer ala the Leopard.

She looks much better (perhaps less hostile/dangerous) in her "Cushion" self-portrait (3rd link in the Paintings section).Jeff wrote:That would be Caitlin Kuhwald. Who, apparently, likes writing poetry and drawing pictures of her friends. I wouldn't talk any more shit about her if I were you. She looks downright dangerous.Narshty wrote:The've got the same crappy Heaven Can Wait artist back for Amarcord.
I don't really know why, but I find her work fascinating simply because her images look so peculiar.ianungstad wrote:...she's a talented artist, but whenever she paints women they end up looking like angry drag queens.

The picture of the person with wings would appear to be a tribute of sorts to Yoshitoshi Abe's extraordinary animated series "Haibane Renmei"

That would be Ernie Barnes:oldsheperd wrote:For some reason her stuff reminds me of J.J.'s paintings from Good Times

Her stuff also reminds me a little of Eric Chase Anderson. Maybe it's just because of her book cover for Ordinary People, with its Andersonian characters.

Speaking of which, you've got to check out this guy's bathroom walls.
I've gone from kind of disliking the Heaven Can Wait cover to having a mild case of Caitlin Kuhwald Fever.
By the way, you were right, Andre; She's not nearly as scary when she's not screaming and her wings aren't bleeding.

Sounds just perfect for late Fellini, then.ianungstad wrote:Yeah, the Amarcord cover is kind of off ... she's a talented artist, but whenever she paints women they end up looking like angry drag queens.
I think the latest batch of covers are doing a better job of accommodating the new logo, especially Seven Samurai, Beehive and Jigoku. On Amarcord it does look a bit like Pacman's going to eat that ship.
