A poster in the previously linked thread, had this to say about the film:
According to the listings the film is 142 minutes, IMDB lists the original cut of the film at 244. Here are some reviews of the film from The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and, um, We Observe The World. An interview with the director in english can be found here, at china.org. If anyone has this DVD and can comment on the quality, or can link to a review of it, I would greatly apreciate it.kieslowski_67 wrote:It will be hard for lots of people to truly appreciate "Peacock" because lots of sequences can only be understood by those who lived through that period in China. The structure is really an issue in the cut version. Gu had to cut the movie by over an hour for its official release (pressure from producers et al that the movie is too long). My wife was able to watch the director's cut on a bad copy when she visited China earlier this year. She commented that the uncut version features better character development and lots of transitions don't feel so abrupt any more.
