Yes it is. I think there have been two in France, but that is all.yoloswegmaster wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 11:48 am This is the first time that Sony licensed film has gotten a 4K release in the US/UK.

Is that ment for the Frankenstein or the Kenneth Brannagh completists?
Come Drink with Me will be the first (promised and/or speculated) Shaw title that isn't in one of the Shawscope boxes, as 88 Films has the UK rights.yoloswegmaster wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 12:37 pm King Hu's 'Come Drink With Me' is also coming out, alongside 4K version for 'An American Werewolf in London'.
I'm curious: is the entire film presented as 1.33:1 positioned towards the left side of the frame with the visible sprocket holes on one side and the film edge overscan on the other, or is that just a gimmick for the trailer?beamish14 wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 4:17 pmyoshimori wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 3:22 pmAnnouncement of the month chez moi.Calvin wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 12:23 pm A new restoration of Kaizo Hayashi's To Sleep So As To Dream

Wow. I saw this as part of the previous streaming Japan Society film festival, and the Kickstarter-funded restoration looks unbelievable.

Apparently there is a separate Blu-ray edition coming, they just...forgot to announce it?The Elegant Dandy Fop wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 7:11 pm I don't particularly care about the Mary Shelly's Frankenstein release, but as someone who has no interest in upgrading their collection again to UHD, I hope it doesn't set a precedent for releases being UHD only. I know there's a multiple version release, but it's a Zaavi exclusive.
Come Drink with Me and one other title will be separately released (perhaps The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter?) and this is definitely locked to Region A if anyone's wondering. No promises of a UK edition right now but I sure hope they consider it when 88 Films' rights expire (I want those extras, as I love this film)!agnamaracs wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 4:20 pmCome Drink with Me will be the first (promised and/or speculated) Shaw title that isn't in one of the Shawscope boxes, as 88 Films has the UK rights.yoloswegmaster wrote: Fri Dec 17, 2021 12:37 pm King Hu's 'Come Drink With Me' is also coming out, alongside 4K version for 'An American Werewolf in London'.
Good choice. Is it too outlandish to hope for Super Inframan?
Shhhhh! You’ll summon him with all those capital letters!

In archival film restoration, it’s common now for the high-res raw scan of the elements to include the width of the whole film strip, including the sprockets. Then you can zoom in slightly for the video master, framing it more precisely and allowing for correction of misalignment or judder.Roger Ryan wrote:I'm curious: is the entire film presented as 1.33:1 positioned towards the left side of the frame with the visible sprocket holes on one side and the film edge overscan on the other, or is that just a gimmick for the trailer?
That would be amazing. I've seen guesses that the TOTBD box set in 2023 might be the Blind Dead series. The first film has already gotten a 4K resto from Synapse and they have a partnership so it seems possible.
"MANG" could be Manji.Glowingwabbit wrote: Fri Dec 24, 2021 2:10 pm - Doesn't look like anymore Masumura's although he has so many and i didn't do an in-depth comparison
only issue with that is if this was the case, the movie would already be announced. that ended up being The Mangler, though I would much rather see it be ManjiJack Phillips wrote: Fri Dec 24, 2021 5:45 pm"MANG" could be Manji.Glowingwabbit wrote: Fri Dec 24, 2021 2:10 pm - Doesn't look like anymore Masumura's although he has so many and i didn't do an in-depth comparison
