The Other (1972) - $14.98 SRP - Like most 12-year-olds, Niles and Holland like to get into mischief. The only problem is when Holland gets into mischief, people have a funny way of "accidentally" dying. Niles knows that Holland is responsible for all the gruesome accidents happening in the neighbourhood - the pitchfork hidden in the hay, the severed finger in the box, the baby in the wine barrel. He knows but dare not tell anyone, not even his beloved grandmother Ada (Uta Hagen), that Holland is the evil twin - or is he?

With no confirmed extras, the film is presented in 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen with English Stereo & Mono audio, French and Spanish Mono and optional Spanish subtitles.

Exquisitely crafted and very creepy film. But the recently released Eureka R2 edition - licensed from Fox - is open matte, unlike this upcoming R1, which is very annoying. I pre-ordered it, with no worries, as I thought to myself, "It's Fox, it's bound to be a nice 16x9 transfer," but no, the fucker's 1.33:1 open matte and from a slightly dirty element, too, which is unlike them. I asked Nick about this and he said that Fox provided the master, but frankly, they should have handed it back and asked for a 16x9, which Fox either had or was planning to create for their R1 edition. A rare case of ball-dropping by one of the best studios.

From DVDdrive-in:
Fox presents THE OTHER in its original 1.85:1 theatrical ratio with anamorphic enhancement. The transfer looks simply wonderful – picture detail is sharp, colors are vivid and distinct (the blue skies really stand out), and there's not a hint of grain or any blemishes to be found. The English audio track is playable in either stereo or mono, with dialogue coming through crisp and clear with no pops or hiss. Spanish and French language mono tracks are also included, as well as optional English and Spanish subtitles. Extras are the original theatrical trailer, as well as recommendations and trailers for other Fox DVD titles

Fox missed out by making this movie barebones.
I guess we get spoiled with their Studio Classics and Collectors Edition lines....

Yeah, it would have been great to hear about the production. Veteran AD Albert Brenner is still alive and working and it would have been interesting to see and hear from the Udvarnoky twins. Oh, well.
