Re: Criterion Collection Store
I expect A Hard Day's Night UHD to soon become available.
Is the release of Le cercle rouge close enough that Criterion would include it in the sale? I seem to recall titles being included in the sale if the release date was 7 days away.

Re: Criterion Collection Store
They moved up Pan’s Labyrinth by a single day a few Octobers ago for a rare Monday sale in order to make it eligible for inclusion- but that was because it was a delayed late Oct sale and the B&N started in just a few days so it was a smart business strategy. I can’t think of another instance but I’d believe it

If it's tomorrow, I wouldn't expect anything after Adoption to be included

Re: Criterion Collection Store
The sale is on in stock items, and usually items come in stock on the Thursday before their release. So in the event that maybe they haven’t gotten the new stock in for Hard Day’s Night and the sale is held off until Thursday it would probably include next week’s releases but I think it will probably just be Adoption.

A blu-ray.com member received a shipment notice on 3/3 in re: A Hard Day's Night replacement. The UHD/Blu combo may soon become available in the store.

Re: Criterion Collection Store
I don’t know if this is the right place for this kind of question, so I’ll let the mods decide that, but are there any films that people feel have been overlooked for tomorrow? I’m definitely going to buy Wildlife, based on its increasing reputation, but is there anything else out there that might have been quickly forgotten? Thanks!

Re: Criterion Collection Store
I’m not sure if this answers your question by posing another question, but I feel like we were getting worried about Criterion’s partnerships with various studios resulting in abrupt OOPs a few times over the last several years- so I suppose I’m wondering: is this still a concern and are there any updates on which studios to buy vs ones that might be safer now? Like, should everyone who doesn’t own Broadcast News immediately purchase it because we’re still worried about Fox rights dissipating fast? Wasn’t MGM one people were watching after the Paramount situation, or am I making that up?
Personally, I’d say that if you wanted to prioritize rarer gems in the collection for an immediate purchase, going for a non-streaming service title would be wise. Wildlife is an IFC title, which is also safely in the bank for eternity (I think)

That being said, Wildlife is a great film, so it wouldn't hurt to add that to your order.

Thanks for your reply, therewillbeblus. I’m not a huge fan of Broadcast News, but I will keep the OOP issue in mind.

If we're just recommending random things, I do love the Pierre Etaix set. Definitely one of the less-discussed gems in the collection.

Re: Criterion Collection Store
Agreed. I have no idea how to answer such a broad question, but one worthwhile film that most probably don't already own yet is last month's release of Time, which is a rather affecting documentary about the arcane concept of something called "forgiveness"

Re: Criterion Collection Store
I suppose the overlap in the Broadcast News/Wildlife Venn diagram of tastes would be close to nil - and I third Drucker’s rec of the Pierre Etaix set, which I didn’t even know existed after exploring nearly the entirely of the collection throughout my 20s until two years ago- definitely a case for obscurity! I wrote the films in the set up here

This is the second sale in a row that I'm sitting out. Some good titles coming out in time for the BN sale this summer though

Yeah, it's amazing just how stacked the next few months are, before even the upcoming announcements for June and July... I sprung for The Piano and Uncut Gems UHDs, despite having the latter blu (god help me), as well as a few other new titles and some older ones I never picked up

not sure if everyone is up to date but very recently (possibly since last week) the qualifitcation for free shipping threshold is now for a minimum of $75 instead of $50

That’s whatever, but I wonder if a price spike on discs is soon to follow- inflation strikes again!

Yeah that doesn't bother me either. Unlike Kino every title is on sale so it's not hard to plan ahead.therewillbeblus wrote: Wed Apr 06, 2022 5:18 pm That’s whatever, but I wonder if a price spike on discs is soon to follow- inflation strikes again!
I think this is due to shipping costs which have definitely gotten worse. I can't see Criterion raising their prices like other companies have. They've remained pretty consistent over the years with price increases largely determined by new formats. Perhaps boxsets could got up I think they'll just cut costs elsewhere like they've done (I e. Leaflets galore! Cheap material for boxsets, more reliance on archival special features)
