We won't get to do everyone's favourites, but thankfully 88 and other companies are around to do so too.

Really excited about the set. I do have a question about future titles. Will there be anymore US exclusives of Shaw titles like COME DRINK WITH ME? There are a lot of titles that 88 released in the UK that don't have US releases. Just wondering what the chances are for some of these titles making it over here.

88 Films recently said that they would be rereleasing some of their Hong Kong classics, I assume that means new editions, or at least American releases, of some of their older Shaw Brothers titles.

What A Disgrace wrote:I still hope AT LEAST The Love Eterne pops up in a future box. I've been wanting to see that film for years, doubting I'd ever get an opportunity. And besides, it would be rather cruel to do a 50+ Shaw Brothers series and NOT release one of their most culturally defining films, even if it does seem awkwardly wedged in.
Agreed. I'd love to see it get a release, whether that be in a box set or standalone.

King Hu's Sons of the Good Earth is the other non-kung fu film I'd most like to see released. I know that Spectrum is releasing it in France soon but presumably without English subs.

Oh yea? Interesting. Do you have a link? Just wondering what they exactly said.

Co-opting what some of the comments above me are saying. Love Eterne is for my money the best film Shaw ever made, with a technical and visual artistry that I have yet to see their other films match up to. I have been hoping against hope that there would be a new restoration complete with redone subs for it, hail mary I know but man it just deserves to be more widely known.

James Flower tweeted this (it's referring to Mad Monkey Kung Fu)
One thing to warn Region B-locked viewers about with Shawscope Vol 2 - the BBFC have made us cut 15 seconds of (frankly quite horrid) monkey-swinging animal cruelty, which will only play uncut in Region A. Everything else, however, is totally uncut, including The Boxer's Omen!

Is it the same disc with different branching based on the region? I hope so. Frankly, this sounds like something I’d prefer to watch in “Region-B-mode” on a Region-A-packaged set. I can do without that kind of animal cruelty.

That's been their usual way of handling censored material.

JamesF, since I need to have special shelving constructed just for Shawscope sets, can you give us an idea of how many of these there might ultimately be?

At least one a year (not sure we can physically do more than that!) for as long as we’re able and as long as they sell.

Wow, okay. In that case, can you secretly sneak a dozen Ruiz films into one of them?

So to clarify, the UK box set will also contain the uncut version, but it will only play if the player is set to Region A?

Presumably, while if it's set to Region B that part will just show a black screen

If authored intelligently, two different edits should be on the disc, whose video content has a 99% overlap thanks to seamless branching (so there are no space issues) - with edit A served up if you play it in Region A, and edit B served up if you play it in Region B.

Of course, we don't know if they're actually doing this, and I suspect officially acknowledging it would be unwise.

I seem to recall James Flower having tweeted they might not go this authoring-trick route for this one.

This doesn't release for another 2 months but some people have already received copies of the set or are getting shipping notifications.

I received a notification the second volume was being sent my way and just assumed it was check discs because it was two months before release date, but nope, it is the complete set. So yeah, they're way ahead of schedule this time.

Edit: I added photos of the set here.

Did you get it directly from Arrow or thru another retail?

Sorry to be a shameless consumer but Chris: are there any hints of titles for Volume 3 in the booklet like Volume 1 did for some of Volume 2 titles?

They are delaying the North American release due to production delays (even though one retailer already have stock of it!):

Since this is finished and people are getting their copies, I assume the delay is to get this out after the B&N 50% off sale on November?

I don't think that would have mattered since I recall certain newly released titles not being a part of the July B&N sale this year.

I didn't shop the sale this year, so I didn't know that. Everything that was out was discounted during the previous sales

Edited to add, I seen you mention over at the Blu-ray.com forum Tenebrae not being on sale during the B&N sale, and the reason for that not being part of the sale is because it is a Synapse title in the US, not Arrow.
