Stumbled across this site the other day www.raredvds4sale.co.uk whilst on the German site www.kinotv.com and thought would take a chance and order a couple of titles out of curiosity. Ordered Murnau's "Der Brennende Acker" which is not available anywhere as far as I know and this guy aint done a bad job in creating english subs for the film, and also got a couple of the documentaries "Dear Antonioni" and the Truffaut documentary with all the Hitchcock interviews on CD, all 12 and half hours! Have to say aint listened to all the episodes yet, but fascinating so far. The source quality of the recordings has been fine from what I have seen so far, so may order couple more in future. Just thought some of you on here may be interested! Cheers - Cineman

Do me a favor and post or shoot me a PM to let me know what THE BURNING EARTH looks like, and if there are English subs (or intertitles). I'd be much obliged and that would genuinely facilitate the service of relaying actual Buyer's Info, rather than simply plugging the co's existence.
EDIT: How is the transfer - image quality of the Murnau film, and how are the intertitles done-- burned in, optional. replacing originals, etc?

Just to give you bit more information - The Murnau film is a good quality tranfer from satellite German TV, it is the Eric Rohmer financed restoration of the movie from 1993, the guy has created english subtitles for the movie (these are optional) and there is chapter search (each of the 6 Acts can be accessed) plus he has created menu screens and a Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack. I know this from an email he sent to me when I enquired about the movie. He has done this using DVD Studio Pro on his Apple Mac. The quality of the film is very watchable and I don't believe there is a better version around anywhere at the moment. The quality on his other discs I have is also of very good quality and I shall no doubt be purchasing other titles from him in the future as most of the stuff he has to sell is not about elsewhere and its an opportunity to view these documentaries/films etc. Whilst I realise they are not of Criterion standard, its a way for people like me to see things that I might otherwise not be able to, certainly until better versions come along, if they ever do!

Interesting response David, but am not entirely convinced that "a lot this stuff is already available elsewhere on Region DVDs" as I have tried to look and find them in online stores.
It's interesting as you mention 2 John Ford Movies; Horse Soldiers and Wagon Master and yet there is no Ford or Ford related material being sold on the site www.raredvds4sale.co.uk
Maybe you can point me in the direction of where I can find the following titles commercially that are on the site:
Der Brennende Acker (with english subs)
Dear Antonioni
Orson Welles: Stories from a Life in Film
Francois Truffaut: The Man Who Loved Cinema (including the entire 25 part radio Series of interviews with Hitchcock lasting 12.5 hours)
Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (restored version with Carl Davis score)
Park Row (with Typewriter, Rifle and Movie Camera documentary on Fuller)
Family Life (Ken Loach)
Looks and Smiles (Ken Loach)
Peter Greenaway's Darwin
Peter Sellers Story (complete 3 part 206min version)
Donald Cammell: The Ultimate Performance
Just curious, as I have purchased a few of these titles above and was intending to purchase a few more from this guy and would be interested to know where I can lay my hands on any of the above commercially.

David,
You have missed the point and are looking at the wrong site!
I stated www.raredvds4sale.co.uk was the site that was selling the difficult to find documentaries and films!
The KinoTV site is a site that tells German folk what rare films are being shown on TV in Germany and elsewhere!
