Thanks, Solaris. Is there no info on the extras yet?

I would say it would be (almost) safe to assume that it will be the same extras that are on the current R1 edition.

But the R1 is from Paramount and the upcoming R4 is from Universal.

Yes, but the Universal Wild At Heart R4 has the same extras as the MGM R1. I find it unlikely that Universal Australia will add any additional extras.

That seems rational. I have the R2 of Elephant Man from Momentum. I only saw the DVD Beaver comparison months afterwards and it does seem that the Paramount transfer is superior and the extras are appealing.

The German "The Elephant Man"-DVD is from Universal / Studio Canal and features a new featurette about the real Elephant Man. It's running time is around 20 minutes. This DVD does not conatin any of the extras from the US release.

My guess is the R4 will be the same as the German edition.

I searched DVD Beaver and couldn't find any review of The Elephant Man. Do you have a link?

Apparently Universal have cancelled Elephant Man special edition R4.

No loss. The R1 Paramount release is the only one worth getting anyway since it saw a restoration under the supervision of Lynch.

Lynch is releasing a number of films previously only available to members of his website. Are there any Lynch.com members that can comment on these works? I'm intrigued, but probably not enough to shell out between $20 and $30 on a blind buy.

Out Yonder is hilarious, but as a whole this volume seems like more of a rental type thing unless you're a Lynch completist.

I'm surprised he didn't include Rabbits.

He might be saving it to put as an extra on the Inland Empire DVD.

Depends who controls the DVD release. If it's Lynch himself, don't count on extras.

The only videos I was familiar with were Dumbland, Rabbits, and his Weather Reports.

I am almost positive that you are correct about that. I Rabbits being listed as well. Considering that he released Dumbland on its own (8 episodes at a whopping 35 minutes total and no special features and fuck you for asking for a sucktacular MSRP of $24.95) he will probably want to do a similiar disc for Rabbits.

Since Rabbits has essentially been incorporated into Inland Empire I also expect it as an extra on the DVD release for the film.

It is possible that Lynch is slowly starting to realise that, if one is creative enough, it is possible to produce extras for a DVD that don't undermine the effect of the film (Schindler's List being a good example of such extras, a number of Criterion DVDs might qualify, too.)

Peter Weir seems to have had a similar change of mind; he didn't want any extras on the Criterion Picnic at Hanging Rock, then, more recently, participated in the two-hour documentary on the Umbrella Entertainment release.

I think Lynch has, more recently, begun to soften up on the "no chapter stops" thing, and he did allow himself to be interviewed for the Lost Highway DVD (albeit, speaking with suitable ambiguity.)

There's a good, short interview with Lynch that's available as a podcast on Salon. Among other things, apparently he's hoping 14-year-old girls with ponytails fall in love with Inland Empire.

A special edition of Mulholland Drive will be released in the UK March 2007.
Extras seem to be recycled from the french edition, plus it includes a ten minute preview of INLAND EMPIRE.

No, no. I remember that too. Disappointing, but I picked the disc up just the same.
