In the Criterion Eric Rohmer Six Moral Tales set (reviewed HERE) I see their new logo in action - it comes out as a spinning circle - joined by the lettering and eventually ends up as the sideways 'C' - I think it looks great..

So, basically, it does the same thing it does on the website.

It also looks like an eclipse with the black circle overlapping the "C". Perhaps a subtle hint of the Eclipse line.

True enough but I honestly have never seen a moving logo on the CC website - I must not surf there enough. Where is it?

Rather than going directly to the index page, go here and the logo will load then redirect.

Not necessary - I get every Criterion *first*... well as soon as it can ship to Canada - a few days after Rosenbaum and Harris et all.

Sorry to ask this stupid question, but do you pay for all the DVDs you get to review?

Probably about half - we get screeners from many, but not all, of the majors... but I have never made a point of requesting from anyone. I don't want to feel like we owe them anything.

Thanks very much Gary. Are the screeners you always receive from Studios and such, any different from the actual package? I assume Criterion must think of you very highly, but then, who doesn't. Keep up the good work.

Speaking from my own experience as a reviewer, most screeners one gets are identical to the release version. They often have the barcode drilled or scratched to discourage resale. Sometimes, but rarely, you get just the disc. Extremely rarely, you'll get a DVD-R, but that's usually only when you get a screener for something still in theaters (around awards season).

Thanks for your kind words.

There used to be more checkdisc screeners sent out but they would always be sure to indicate what was different from the eventual publicly released one. Nowadays I don't see many of those - just the same as purchasable online and from stores.

well, you said you bet it was on the Canterbury disc... I bet it was on the august ones, and that's what I was referring to. I could also say that I did cause you called it for the disc menu, and not the intro. difference there. but yeah, we both had the same Idea I guess.
