Is this for Criterion's website, or Barnes & Noble?

I don't monitor this thread, but Criterion just sent me a $10 coupon that doesn't expire. How often are the flash sales? The question is moot of course if their 50% sale is coming up next week. Thanks

Criterion flash sales are generally in March and October. Barnes and Noble sales are July and December.

There was no way it wasn't gonna be next week with the Browning set dropping then. Plus all the Janus Contemporaries titles released on the same day, which I imagine will be discounted as well

I just got my $10 Criterion Channel subscriber gift code, so the sale is definitely next week. I was hoping it might be later so I could snag The Others half-off.

You’ll just have to wait a full week to get it from B&N or Amazon instead

Isn't the SC release preferable?

Eh, I’m not going to get too picky about it. I like Criterion’s cover art much better :D

But yeah, maybe I’ll just hold onto my coupon until February.

no better than UK 4K
Videodrome
Don't Look Now

worse than UK BD
Walkabout

I'm sure they'll fix The Princess Bride (they've at least acknowledged through email they're looking into it), and it looks great (by most accounts, it is slightly better than the German disc). I think Videodrome and Don't Look Now come down to preference and features, but Walkabout is one that I'd definitely wait to see if something better comes along. The messed up thing about Criterion's is it actually looks incredible in areas, but there are sections that are smoothed over without any texture and it looks really off. As long as someone else doesn't fuck up the encode it should look pretty amazing.

What is the purchase amount you need now for free shipping on the Criterion site? $100?

Off topic, Chris have you brought up Walkabout's encoding issues with them? With the titles released before and after seeming to be fine, it makes it seem more like an error than someone looking at it and deciding that it was acceptable.

If you place two orders several hours apart, will they package them separately? I want to get the Pasolini set but I'm worried (possibly unreasonably) it will come in a big box that will cause the rest of my order to shift around and possibly get damaged.

yes, I've done this before and you can buy with confidence knowing Pasolini will get its own box

But, as before, only need to have pre-discount subtotal reach $75 to qualify.

I'm not sure how or why this happened, but I just ordered the Bo Widerberg set for $49.97 (no other items) and somehow got free shipping.

EDIT: Never mind — I just saw Cash Flagg’s post above. Good to know for the future.

I've contacted them about disc errors before and they seemed appreciative, but I've never written them about their transfer/masters/encodes as I don't think that's my place. But I agree, even if what they've done to date could be better, Walkabout is really out of place and does feel like an error. Or oversight at least.

I may be posting this in the wrong place, Mods, but will the B&N sale be happening in November? That flash sale seemed a bit later than usual.

If B&N suddenly stop doing their sale it’ll be for other reasons unrelated to when Criterion has their site sale. The last five Fall site sales fell just days on either side of this one’s (10/19, 10/20, 10/15, 10/16, 10/17)

There's contradicting info on the Reddit and other forums on the B&N sale; some people are saying they got info from their local stores that it starts the 3rd, others (notably people stating they are B&N employees) have said that it'll start on the 6th. My guess is that it's gonna technically start Monday, but other stores may roll out the sale prices during the weekend
