I think what Nolan really likes is Zasalv's commitment to theatrical releases.

Re: New Films in Production, v.2
That’s understandable but his “worst streamer ever” comment now reads weird now because it’s arguably gotten worse and unarguably more expensive too.

Re: New Films in Production, v.2
I think the WB people Nolan had the biggest beef with (i.e. those who pushed for day-and-date streaming releases during COVID and shortened the theatrical window for Tenet) were all replaced by Zaslav.

Re: New Films in Production, v.2
I would have guessed there remained some skepticism on his part about the new regime, but I probably should at least give Zaslav the benefit of the doubt as far as reaching out and doing press with Spielberg, Scorsese and PTA. I’m just not a fan of literally anything else he’s done so far but I’ll concede the long game out of this could mean a new age in the industry.

Re: New Films in Production, v.2
I actually knew a guy who worked on this when I went for a brief stint in an acting school in New Mexico. Forgot his name and he probably just played a minor role behind the scenes but knowing what a sweet/earnest guy he was and how passionate he when he talked about it, it aches my heart to imagine 1000s of others like him that worked effortlessly on it realize it would never be. Fuck Warner.yoloswegmaster wrote: Thu Nov 09, 2023 10:05 pm Warner has shelved Coyote Vs. Acme, which was already completed

Had forgotten about Broken English, which had Oona O'neill and it's her only film credit.beamish14 wrote: Thu Nov 09, 2023 11:26 pmIt has happened on very rare occasions. Paramount did it with a film they test screened called Young Lust around 1984, and 20th Century Fox did with Hung Up (1973), a French film that I believe didn’t even open in its native country. Lorimar did with Broken English in 1981dx23 wrote: Thu Nov 09, 2023 11:19 pmNever in my life have I a seen a company shut down completed movies without any of them seeing the light of day. Looks like they may decide to sell it to another studio after all, which would be good to all involved as test screening reactions suggests it's a decent film.yoloswegmaster wrote: Thu Nov 09, 2023 10:05 pm Warner has shelved Coyote Vs. Acme, which was already completed

How do they get a tax write off if they sell the film?

Re: New Films in Production, v.2
Maybe they haven't finalized the paperwork for it? Seems they would change it to a write-down like the article mentions Paramount did for Monster Trucks back in 2016.

They could sell it at a loss and write off the remainder.

Re: New Films in Production, v.2
It sounds like they were already taking a write-down, not a write-off (even though a lot of sources conflated the two). They could always offset it with a write-up on a future filing.

I'd rather see a "Pen15" style biopic with Ronstadt playing herself at all ages and lip-syncing her own songs. Bless Gomez, who does appear to have some talent, but to quote Joni Mitchell when told Taylor Swift might play her in a biopic: “I don’t know what her music sounds like, but I do know this – that if she’s going to sing and play me, good luck.”

Todd Solondz’ Love Child starring Elizabeth Olsen and Charles Melton
Synopsis
Deadline wrote:The story follows Misty who is stuck in a loveless marriage to a brutish husband. Junior, her precocious 11-year-old is her only consolation. When Easy, a handsome vagabond stranger, appears, Junior hatches a plan to get rid of his father so that his mother can marry him instead. But things end up backfiring, so Junior comes up with yet another plan, this one even more devious, and with more disastrous—and unexpected—consequences.

Sounds awesome. I’m ready for Olsen to return to more Martha… type films that utilize her talents for more than filling out a superhero costume
