I received my Rohmer set from Amazon. I cannot say that I am pleased by the condition. The front of box is pinched inward and the corners are crumpled. I think it is more likely the fault of Criterion rather than Amazon. The Rohmer set has the sloppiest packaging I have seen from Criterion for a box set. The older style boxes (Orphic Trilogy and Dreyer sets) were a little too big, but this is ridiculous. They should have at least made the box like the Cassavetes set. There seems to be enough room for one more title. Did they overestimate the size of the book?

Anyone ordered this box set from DVDPlanet? I just checked my account and found this item was not shipped as of yet.

I'm one of those morons. I checked my account today, saw that it was BACKORDERED and promptly called and canceled. If I had ordered it from Amazon for four dollars more, it would have been here by now (Amazon Prime free trial!)

Their customer service is terrible. I know I keep harping on it, but so is their (sorta) new site. I placed a sizable order with them recently, including the Rohmer box--I'm going to hold out until the backorder is filled, but this will probably be my last order with dvdplanet.

Thought there might be some relationship between the dvdplanet/digitaleyes "merger" and/or Criterion changing over to Image for distribution regarding delays, but that thought has pretty much been erased given how much time has passed since those events. Sigh.

Digitaleyes (and dvdplanet) on average have resulted in the least amount of sustained damage to those 'lovely/adorable' cardboard packages (though even they have not been 100% -- would only take a little thought and care by the packers, but that seems to be a rarity anymore). So may still stick with them regardless if they can manage to keep doing little/no damage to them; otherwise I just might become a little more choosy about what I get, if indeed Criterion is going all cardboard all the time (been doing so with other companies' cardboard cr*p).

(Yeah, I know, easy to say...)

Speaking of DVDPlanet, still no sign of Six Moral Tales. Has anyone received a shipment notice?

still waiting for f#(&ing Amazon to get around to shipping the Moral Tales...

Speaking of which, I'm considering checking out criteriondvd.com for my next purchase. How do they generally compare to Amazon? I usually do Amazon when I have a gift card and dvdplanet when I don't, but I haven't been terribly impressed with either of their timetables, despite the obvious financial advantages. Anybody have any bad experiences with criteriondvd?

As I mentioned above, Mr. Arkadin took several weeks to get to me because I believe it was shipped book rate, so that was quite obnoxious. But every other pre-order, and there have been about twenty of those, has arrived on or before the street date, sometimes well before. From my experience, they ship faster than Amazon. One other thing to consider, though, is that criteriondvd charges you when you place the pre-order, not when it ships. So far, that hasn't proven to be a problem - after the Arkadin mishap, Amazon was running a special 40% off selected CCs, so I canceled a standing pre-order from criteriondvd, and they reimbursed me the next day. So, I guess I'd say they're reliable and quite fast.

I inquired about the status of my Six Moral Tales order at DVD Planet. Their answer:
Thank you for writing DVDPlanet!
Thank you for contacting us. SIX MORAL TALES BY ERIC is not released
UNTIL 9-9-2006. We do not have this item in stock yet. This is a new
release. We are sorry about the delay.
Please contact us if you have any further questions.
Like other members here I was dumb enough to order from them because of $4 difference. Well, there is last time for everything.

I too had Six Moral Tales on order through DVDPlanet (along with Yi Yi) for over two weeks now. They really piss me off and I don't think I'll use them again. So I called them and cancelled my order... and bought both titles through a local merchant at only a slightly higher price. Screw DVDPlanet.

My Six Moral Tales Box casing was completely ruined as well. It looked absolutely awful. The top and spine are wrinkled and one of the sides is dented inward at the bottom. Criterion should take a little more care of the packaging of boxes and digis before the release the titles.

For all of you burnt by DVDPlanet: DVD Empire has 10% off sale today and tomorrow.
I cancelled my Six Moral Tales order with DVDPlanet and ordered from Empire. The price is $62.07 not including shipping.

Still not for me.. I checked a couple of days ago and it said "In stock, ships in 24 hours" but now it's back to "On order with manufacturer." I placed this order a month ago so I don't know why they wouldn't have one earmarked to ship to me when they received their shipment.
