Cassie's storyline in Pure was pretty weak overall, but Cook's in Rise is a straight-up noir and a pretty entertaining one at that. It's a bit narratively programmatic but spliced with so many rich details in character and atmosphere throughout that it manages to maintain an uneasy unpredictability and emerge as an original work
