The only really notable thing about this movie is a bus being transported by helicopter, which was used in all the promotional images of Thom Anderson’s Los Angeles Plays Itself. It has some laughably stupid moments, but it’s mostly just dull. Sam Shepard’s character does virtually nothing

I would not entirely agree. Halle Berry brings a couple of things to one scene in particular! As well as engaging in a rather unorthodox distraction move at one point!

But yes I seem to remember a lot of the more memorable scenes being front loaded (oo-er!) in the film. The most notable shot of all being that (spoiler? Even though the film itself spoils it by putting it at the very beginning of the film and then flashing back from it. Weirdly that exact same structure turns up in Mission: Impossible III a few years later, that also involves the main character failing to save a supporting female character, so I suspect Swordfish exerted a structural influence there. Its also something you can probably trace all the way back to the traumatic opening scene of the Stallone Cliffhanger film too), slow motion explosion move that is obviously trying to outdo the Matrix films.

The Los Angeles Plays Itself cameo is the second thing I remember this movie for. Being a teenage boy at the time of release, the number one thing I remember this for was how Halle Barry was paid a million dollars to go topless for a second in this movie. I also will never forget the endless shame of seeing this in the theater and having to sit next to my dad while

Hugh Jackman gets a blowjob at the same time he's supposed to be doing awesome hacker stuff because it's some sort of challenge (or voyeuristic thing?).

Speaking of L.A. locations, I'm not entirely certain but is the location of Hugh Jackman's trailer with its oil well outside it the same location that the Beastie Boys video Hey Ladies starts off in?
