Do any Australian members (or any one else for that matter) know of R4 releases of these Cox films? I've looked everywhere to no avail...
My video copies have died!
Lonely Hearts (1981)
Cactus (1986).
Vincent - the Life and Death of Vincent Van Gogh (1987)
I know there is Cactus on Image Ent, but the reviews I've read consider this release: a poor image.

Flixy, why would you be surprised so few Cox films are available here? The somewhat recent films of Innocence, Molokai and Najinsky have been released and that is it. His latest film, Human Touch, played MIFF last year, but looks to have been left on the (crowded) shelf of the distributors.
Stateside, Lonely Hearts is out in a servicable print (ie correct ratio!) from MGM. The Image release of Cactus may be pan n' scanned from memory. If anyone can pass on the quality of the Image Man of Flowers I'd be very pleased. For completists his Imax film, The Hidden Dimension is also available.
I've given up emailing Jon once a year to see if Criterion have an interest in the Cox stuff. His masterpiece A Woman's Tale, Golden Braid, My Favourite Wife, Kostas, Vincent, all the early shorts that are equal to anyone, are sadly MIA.

Wonderful article about the new Paul Cox film, a documentary on his friend and main actor Norman Kaye.

Haven't viewed the Vincent DVD Subbtteo, but you may be interested to know (if you don't already) that Cox's latest feature Human Touch was released in R4 last month. Again, not viewed the DVD, but the film is really only of some (mild) interest to Cox buffs - sadly not the return to major form I still wait in vain for.
A story of an elderly gent helping a young lass discover her sensual side, it lacks the humour and surreal touches such a predictable plot desperately needs, and what Cox sees in lead actress Jacqueline McKenzie remains a mystery. She always comes across as the pale, sad girl who hangs around your hot girlfriend, sipping on her third white, complaining about her life as a primary school teacher. Cox should have gone younger here, and probably older with lead Chris Haywood. Brush up on your Bunuel, Mr. Cox!
