I hope Eureka upgrade "Three Days of the Condor" and "Serpico". For Condor, while I do like the look of the StudioCanal UHD (I prefer it more to Kino's UHD), I just want a release to have the real mono mix and not the home video "stereo" remix they've been using for decades. "Serpico" would be nice to actually have the option to play the mono track period.nicolas wrote: Tue Apr 22, 2025 10:08 pm Remarkable news! I’d be in for all those you mentioned for the same reasons and would happily add Stalag 17 to the list, which Kino also didn’t treat well encoding-wise. I’m hopeful that we’re getting lots of good stuff over the next months and maybe in a bit of time also something along the lines of Nashville.ChunkyLover wrote: Tue Apr 22, 2025 10:28 pmI hope Eureka upgrade "Three Days of the Condor" and "Serpico". What makes them think the 4K collectors do not deserve the same lavish book (and packaging)?

Re: BD 208 High Noon
for real, I'm kinda surprised they didn't at least match the previous edition. I can understand it being one thing like Studiocanal not rolling out the big Kind Hearts and Coronets package for the 4K, as that package is mostly junk, but MOC sacrificing a large booklet and a hard case is a bit surprisingandyli wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 3:13 pm What makes them think the 4K collectors do not deserve the same lavish book (and packaging)?
anyway, never been a huge fan of this one but I'd love to hear Stephen Prince talk about it. love how MOC credited him as "western authority" for his tracks here and on Rio Grande

Re: BD 208 High Noon
I imagine they're appealing to a lot of the same collectors who got the initial release and are reluctant to pay so much for this upgrade, hence the lack of a slipbox/thicker booklet (they did the same for Paths of Glory). So in short, they're keeping the cost down, which is probably wise as some people may not upgrade right away (myself included).
Curious what this means for Paramount licensing though...figured they were done with the UK until last month's Arrow announcements.

Paths of Glory's original release wasn't a slipboxed limited edition, was it?

nope, standard case. surprisingly modest for their only Kubrick title (assuming they don't do Fear and Desire again). that one got a really gorgeous slipcover for its upgrade at leastswo17 wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 6:17 pm Paths of Glory's original release wasn't a slipboxed limited edition, was it?
I'm also very pleased Paramount is licensing to Arrow and Eureka again. both labels I'm sure are very happy about it too

I'd imagine at least some of us held off on the Eureka blu-ray because they already owned the Olive 4k restoration and did not consider the same-format release a big enough upgrade. With 4K it presents a better opportunity to engage... The same logic applies to skipping some other stuff from them, like Johnny Guitar. I'll be the first to pre-order if Eureka decides to re-issue that one on 4K UHD.rapta wrote: Thu Apr 24, 2025 5:45 pm I imagine they're appealing to a lot of the same collectors who got the initial release and are reluctant to pay so much for this upgrade, hence the lack of a slipbox/thicker booklet (they did the same for Paths of Glory). Come to think of it, almost everything they release on 4K is from their existing catalog, some offering the same restoration in an upgraded format, some updating a previous, dated transfer. Only The Valiant Ones counts as new arrival to the library (there might be others but I couldn't recall). Their 4K policy almost seems the exact opposite to that of Indicator/Powerhouse. I mean, Criterion/Arrow/Kino/Shout also maintain a steady pace upgrading existing blu-rays but in this regard Eureka is surpassed by no one.

That's me here. I already had the Olive Signature disc, and it made little sense to me to buy the Eureka BD again. However, I haven't upgraded the movie to UHD yet, because I'm not quadruple dipping every 6 months, so I would have loved to see the Eureka UHD to mimic the previous hardboard+book BD release.andyli wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 4:59 amI'd imagine at least some of us held off on the Eureka blu-ray because they already owned the Olive 4k restoration and did not consider the same-format release a big enough upgrade. But on the other hand, it feels adequately priced at £23.99, £1 cheaper than The Old Dark House, Cure or The Valiant Ones.
And China O'Brien 1 & 2, though that still is a minority of their 4K releases.andyli wrote: Fri Apr 25, 2025 4:59 amOnly The Valiant Ones counts as new arrival to the library (there might be others but I couldn't recall).

I didn't get their Johnny Guitar BD either because of the Olive Signature disc. I'd also upgrade to a 4K in a heartbeat unless Criterion or someone else in the US gets there first again.

Re: BD 208 High Noon
I reckon Eureka are basically trying to keep up with the demand for 4K, and are looking at their current library and if anything can be upgraded, as well as considering new titles. Yes, we've only had two brand new 4K titles (The Valiant Ones, China O'Brien) but I'm sure there will be some upcoming ones too. With regards to new titles, they've generally been quite niche stuff and arguably not suitable for the 4K bump for such a small label (too risky). Note that BFI are similarly quite a small operation, and have only taken the 4K risks with known cult titles (The Seventh Seal, Get Carter, The Proposition), and I'd imagine Eureka will do the same with new 4K titles in future. You could argue their first new-to-4K titles have still been pretty niche, and far riskier than BFI's.
As for Paramount acquisitions, I emailed Eureka and they confirmed there will be more, but implied it was a fairly small deal. I reckon one of them might at least be an upgrade to 4K (e.g. Johnny Guitar, Shane, Paper Moon, Serpico, The Quiet Man, Three Days of the Condor, Seconds) but really hoping we see one or two fresh titles for MoC too. Part of me wonders if they might leave some for Criterion to deal with (e.g. Days of Heaven, The Parallax View), but I'd love to see things like The Duellists, Letter from an Unknown Woman, Macbeth, Pursued...maybe even Hard Eight?

Note that it doesn't seem like we're debating the 4K upgrade in itself, but rather why choosing to release the UHD upgrade in a simpler (though cheaper) release rather than replicating the BD release level of premium.

I guess one could track down the Blu limited edition and then buy the 4K, switch out the discs, and sell the 4K set as a Blu-only?

Re: BD 208 High Noon
You could just take the Amaray case out of the limited edition, sell it as the standard BD edition, and put the UHD release in its place
