Re: Paramount Catalog Titles on Blu
I didn't see Kane until the '90s, and I'm pretty sure I knew about Rosebud before I even knew who Orson Welles was or even looked like, thanks to the vintage Peanuts strips my family had on hand (which on at least a few occasions "spoiled" the ending). This was especially the case when I watched modern-day Warner Bros. TV cartoons, which were pretty ubiquitous and very popular with everyone I went to school with, and it was obvious those shows had a lot of Welles fans behind the scenes (Tiny Toons, Animaniacs and especially Pink & the Brain referenced Welles's work on radio, Kane, The Third Man and probably much more...even the art deco Batman: The Animated Series likely drew inspiration from his work). And of course I'm forgetting about The Simpsons - the showrunners joked you could probably piece together a Simpsons-style Citizen Kane if you cut together all the references from the show's history.
Beyond Kane, there was also Psycho (the most famous scene), Gone with the Wind ("frankly my dear..."), and I see there was even an entire episode of Tiny Toon spoofing Sunset Boulevard. tbh I've never been bothered by spoilers, even for new movies, and I guess it's a combination of two reasons: 1) growing used to the idea that everything becomes a broadly-known reference point in popular culture thanks to the entertainment I grew up with and 2) realizing that the ending or a twist doesn't make a film worth seeing, and it's a big reason why my favorite films tend to be the ones I go back to - there's always more to discover even after the plot's known, and in many of the best cases, there's even more revealed when you know how it ends.

The Spielberg titles are long overdue. That they didn't come out for their 20th anniversaries in 2022 (the year of Cruise AND Paramount w/Top Gun: Maverick) is baffling.

Paramount is releasing The Warriors on UHD in the UK, but, unlike Arrow's US release, it will only have the alternate version, not the original theatrical cut.

I'll most likely have the opportunity to ask a question to Andrea Kalas next week, so if anyone has an idea, go ahead and I'll see what I can do.
(my spontaneous idea would be "what the hell happened TWICE with To Catch A Thief ?")

I'd love to hear an explanation as to exactly why she favours degrained video and remixed audio when the more vocal customers have made it clear for a long time now they prefer retaining grain structure and OG audio. Compared to say, Sony and Grover Crisp.

Edited to answer my own question, it was earlier this year: Former Paramount Film Archivist Andrea Kalas Appointed VP at Iron Mountain

I thought Kalas left Paramount a couple years ago?

She has, but I'm fairly certain it's recent enough that a good chunk of the discussion I'll attend to will be about her time at Paramount.
EDIT : I also thought that was the best place to ask this question.

I second Eddie’s question from earlier. If there are any specific titles to refer to, Roman Holiday would be a good fit regarding the audio and her disappointment at not being able to do a remix.

yeah, it probably is the best place since her leaving was more recent than I thought.tenia wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 5:04 pm She has, but I'm fairly certain it's recent enough that a good chunk of the discussion I'll attend to will be about her time at Paramount.

I just hope her office is actually in the mountain and you have to access it by pit railway.

Had to catch her quickly after the conference.tenia wrote: Mon Oct 06, 2025 11:05 am I'll most likely have the opportunity to ask a question to Andrea Kalas next week, so if anyone has an idea, go ahead and I'll see what I can do.

Asked her about when the gorgeous restoration of A House Divided will be out somewhere. She told me that she's trying to have it out at least on digital somewhere (anywhere), but nothing's sure yet, so any lobbying for this is welcome.
And then... To Catch a Thief. She still stands by what was done in 2020, and tended to say the colors were more an issue than texture, but that she also stands by having been corrected afterwards and with a better version now being out.

Except for those last 3 paragraphs, the rest is a summary of her keynote.

About time. The prior release came and went while I was between jobs and I was bummed I had to miss out on it.FrauBlucher wrote: Tue Nov 04, 2025 2:18 am After Bringing Out the Dead sold out after getting released on their Presents! line they are re-releasing this on their main line.
