Ever see a film and you love it, but can't identify any part that make it special to you. Having just finished this, my first European disc, I have to say that is now my experience. It started off slow, but after the first fifteen minutes something wonderful happened, but I can't seem to describe this essence that has made me enjoy the film so much. The characters, landscape, and even beloved cinematography didn't really capture me, but the script is so bare that that can't be what I'm attracted to with the film. I just can't put my hands around what I liked.
By the way the transfer is gorgeous. Will be searching out others from the company.

Well, if the BFI IMAX can sell roughly a hundred tickets for a Sátántangó all-nighter, who knows?

Incidentally, someone's chiding PTA for having "very boring taste", presumably because he didn't call for Jancsó's Season of Monsters or The Lord's Lantern in Budapest in IMAX.

Gravity is the only time I've ever enjoyed a narrative feature film most in IMAX. It's baked into the point of the movie - the frightening and overwhelming vastness of space. Otherwise, IMAX was just gimmicky for everything else.

Constant aspect ratio chopping used to annoy me, but many of Nolan's more recent films, The Brutalist and Battle suffer from that problem less.
