This is a story about a fragmented family (she’s an artist, he’s a herring fisherman, away most of the time; the kids are often left to their own devices). It’s well-observed and handsomely shot (Academy, yet again), and so gently involving that a late feint at tragedy seems guaranteed to resolve itself harmlessly, which leaves one quite exposed for the weird ending that follows.

Ha, thats a good one. The droll humor reminds me a little of the "disingenuous" promo poster for Cristi Puiu's Death of Mr. Lazarescu.

It’s so good on virtue of how simple the whole thing is constructed. Good lesson on how to make a trailer remarkable with no visual gimmicks or editing tricks. Easily the best trailer I’ve seen in a few years.

The voiceover was a nice touch, too.

They also picked up the rights to Pálmason's Joan of Arc.

Looks like they were a twofer purchase. From the article,
All the newly announced Joan of Arc buyers also hold rights to The Love That Remains.

Criterion Premieres: The Love That Remains

Suffused with tenderness and deadpan humor, The Love That Remains asks: What happens when a relationship ends but the bonds of caring endure? Moving unpredictably through four seasons in the lives of a separating couple—artist Anna (Saga Garðarsdóttir) and fisherman Magnus (Sverrir Guðnason)—and their three children, Hlynur Pálmason’s fourth feature is as vibrantly attuned to the ebb and flow of domestic routine as it is to the stark, spectacular landscape of coastal Iceland. Juggling intimate scenes of adults at work and children at play with wild intrusions of surrealism, this strange and poignant film is a rare study of family life in all its beauty and confusion.
