Re: Christopher Nolan
Why the face? I haven’t liked all the movies he’s done, but I never thought he gave a bad performance in any of them. He was even the lone bright spot in the execrable Cherry.

Re: Christopher Nolan
I’m not yet convinced that he can pull of performances where Spider-Man doesn’t shine through whenever he opens his mouth. He was particularly misguided in The Devil All the Time to perform in a lower register to appear more rugged and raw as a clear contrast to the Marvel stuff but for me that evoked the opposite effect in constantly reminding me that he’s trying real hard. I’m not blaming Holland here but the director, yet even a couple of years later and him having done two more generic blockbusters and a TV show isn’t what I’d call a great basis for a performance in a Nolan film that surely requires more nuance.Mr Sausage wrote: Mon Oct 21, 2024 8:58 pm Why the face? I’ve posted the emoji because I’m a huge fan of Nolan and usually confident in his casting choices, only in Holland’s case I don’t yet see where/when it might’ve clicked for him to say “I want him to be a lead”. But hey, maybe we’ll get a positive surprise.

I'm a Nolan agnostic, but a Holland fan, so I hope his casting will contribute to me liking a Nolan movie a little more. And he already was an excellent actor before Spider-Man.

Yeah I always think of him from The Lost City of Z where he really holds his own. He's ready to break through beyond Spider-Man

Given it's Nolan I feel there's a nontrivial chance that logline could be a complete feint.

There was this reddit user who claimed 2 weeks ago that the new film was inspired by Blue Thunder and that Nolan was working with the NYPD Aviation Unit (with people even saying that they saw him in NYC).

Helicopters, vampire, and now the KKK??? Welp, I guess it's time for me to start reading Iliad/Odyssey.

Nolan will have access to modified IMAX cameras for the film that are lighter and 30% quieter for better dialogue recording.

Re: Christopher Nolan
Speaking Thursday at IMAX’s annual Cannes press lunch, CEO Rich Gelfond revealed that Nolan directly challenged the company after “Oppenheimer” grossed over $190M on IMAX screens alone. “Chris called me up and said, ‘If you can figure out how to solve the problems, we’ll make [The Odyssey] 100 percent in IMAX.’ And that’s what we’re doing,” Gelfond said. “He forced us to rethink that side of our business—our film recorders, our film cameras.”

In one of the most goofiest moves I've seen lately, theaters that can screen IMAX 70mm have already opened preorders for screenings of The Odyssey a full year in advance.
Here is the full list of theaters that will be screening in IMAX 70mm.

You say goofy, yet the ones I'm most likely to be near (the Toronto locations or the BFI IMAX in London) are either all sold out already or very close to it.yoloswegmaster wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 1:31 pm In one of the most goofiest moves I've seen lately, theaters that can screen IMAX 70mm have already opened preorders for screenings of The Odyssey a full year in advance.

This is a bit silly but in the overall actually gives people the guarantee they can see it that day so far in advance. Think of all the people requesting the same days off a year from now for this or will plan vacation time around it. All for a movie that has John Leguizamo in it. What a world.

I'm also close to the Toronto locations and all the good seats were all sold out at 5 AM this morning. I just realized that they only opened sales for 1 screening a day at 7 PM over a 4 day period, so there is a chance to get tickets at a earlier time.willoneill wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 2:20 pmYou say goofy, yet the ones I'm most likely to be near (the Toronto locations or the BFI IMAX in London) are either all sold out already or very close to it.yoloswegmaster wrote: Thu Jul 17, 2025 1:31 pm In one of the most goofiest moves I've seen lately, theaters that can screen IMAX 70mm have already opened preorders for screenings of The Odyssey a full year in advance.
