I knew Riley was left-wing, and caught some of his comments supportive of the Maduro regime in the wake of his arrest. A quick Wikipedia check uncovers this gem: Riley has defended the annexation of Tibet by the People's Republic of China, denouncing Tibet as a CIA-backed "feudal slave-owning society", with practices that China had attempted to stop before their invasion.[57] The advocacy group International Campaign for Tibet criticized him for these statements.

Not really defending Riley or intending to offend the Tibetian people or whatever, but the pre-invasion Tibetian state was a feudal society with routinely awful treatment of serfs. None of this is to say that the PRC is a humanitarian administrator of the region, but he 's hardly wrong.

Wild that he thinks the best solution to said feudalism is colonialism. Never thought I’d hear a progressive black man from modern America using rhetoric that would’ve been at home in the British Raj!

I like that our rare dip into politics starts at the current flashpoint of Tibet :). I think Boots is a pretty dedicated Maoist in the mold of Godard.

So apparently Eric Idle was a cast member for season four of Suddenly Susan and his character was named “Ian Maxtone-Graham” which is of course the exact name of a prolific Simpsons writer. Anyone know why he was so honored?

He was close friend with showrunner of Suddenly Susan, Maria Semple.

Watching “Last Exit to Springfield” on E4 and they edited out “Those sandal-wearing goldfish tenders”?! Didn’t Skins air on this channel?
