If The French Connection rumor turns out to be true, I wonder if Criterion licensed it before or after Hurricane Billy died.DRW.mov wrote: Wed Jan 14, 2026 5:05 pm French Dispatch is also from the Mouse. The last title released from the Disney/Fox vault without a living director involved was The Girl Can't Help It in 2022. Miller's Crossing was around the same time but, ya know, Coens.

Re: Criterion and Disney
I have a feeling that The Girl Can't Help It was acquired before the merger, and Criterion sat on it as their want to do. As for The French Connection, if that rumor is true, and truly hope it is, it also could've been acquired along with the Sorcerer through the help of Friedkin before he passed.
I would be really impressed if Criterion was able to wrangle 20th Century Fox titles from Disney from 30s, 40s and 50s. I guess this is my point of all this.
