I was recently exposed to the trailer to the upcoming terrifyingly cute anime series Nyaight of the Living Cat, which is "executive directed" by Takashi Miike, and on casually going to the imdb page to see what else Miike is currently working on apparently there is a remake of Audition staring Charlie XCX(!?!), along with a thrd entry in the Bad Lieutenant universe(?), Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo starring Lily James(?!?!?) on the cards.

I knew about the 2 live action projects but didn’t realize that the Charli XCX one was an Audition remake. She has multiple films in the can that still haven’t been released, so there’s no real way to gauge her acting capabilities

His film with Charlie xcx starts filming in Japan next month

Milly Alcock, Norman Reedus and Kiko Mizuhara are in it too plus Show Kasamatsu who was phenomenal in Tokyo Vice.
Known as Untitled Kyoto, the film will follow three best friends who meet up in Kyoto to rekindle their lifelong friendships. What is intended to be a carefree girls trip devolves into a nightmare, unfolding when Katie (Charli xcx) becomes possessed by a violent, tortured spirit (Mizuhara) in the Japanese horror tradition.

Also interestingly, it appears that Takashi Miike's 2025 film Sham is dealing with the same real life situation that also underpinned Hirokazu Kore-eda's Monster! So those films will be interesting to compare and contrast against each other.

Good call. Sadly seems I missed Sham at a screening here last year. Miike is ridiculously hard to keep up with though. I'd completely forgotten about Blazing Fists until the other day as well.

I'm a dog person and yet I want to see the anime series about monster kittens the most out of all those new projects but they all sound interesting. The Sham trailer has compelled me to seek out Kore-eda's Monster film, and isn't someone in Hollywood remaking Audition as well?
