JAZZ BOAT
(Ken Hughes, 1960, 96 mins)
Release date: 16 February 2026
Limited Edition Blu-ray (World premiere)

Pre-order here.

Anthony Newley (Idle on Parade), Anne Aubrey (The Man Inside), and Lionel Jeffries (Orders to Kill) star in the musical crime caper Jazz Boat.

When Bert Harris (Newley) boasts of his prowess as a thief, he is reluctantly recruited by a beautiful woman (Aubrey) to take part in a jewel heist alongside a violent gang. On the run from both the gang and Detective Sergeant Thompson (Jeffries), Harris and his girlfriend hide out on a river cruise.

Directed by Ken Hughes (The Long Haul), co-written by John Antrobus (The Bed-Sitting Room), and photographed by Nicolas Roeg (Track 29), this entertaining blend of comedy, music, and crime from Warwick Films offers a snapshot of Britain's pre-Beatles youth culture, and features performances from the most popular big band of the era, Ted Heath and His Music.

Bernie Winters! Though it is too early for Schnorbitz to make an appearance because Bernie was still in a double act with his brother at the time of this film.

This looks like another really fun deep cut from Indicator. The mix of music, crime caper energy, and that very pre-Beatles youth-culture vibe makes it feel like a snapshot of a moment we don’t see restored very often. The Roeg cinematography credit alone makes this tempting, and the extras lineup is surprisingly stacked for a title this niche. Definitely adding this one to the February haul.
