How do you know this?
Somebody on the other forum emailed Mulvaney, but the it's unclear whether he was specifically denying error with Les Mistons on the BD that contains it. So nothing definitive as far as I know. As far as I remember it usually takes a while before they acknowledge such things.
That would be, and we're still e-mailing back and forth on the matter, but despite this being my most anticipated high-def disc release ever (and it went straight to 4K!), I've got kids, work, etc. Will update if/when anything interesting comes of it. I will say I have owned every release of these films and so was able to speak to the issues with a high degree of familiarity, but I made the point to link him to this thread to see how many people are discussing. Sadly, while this is a dream release for some of us, I am not hopeful that the sales will justify a replacement.

If the opening MK2 logo has a different look from that of the other two B/W films in the set, I guess it's pretty undeniable that something is off. Couldn't they have just checked that before saying nothing is wrong?

Zot! wrote: Wed Jul 23, 2025 2:52 pm Well, in that case I hope Les Mistons looks better on my screen than what macaca posted as a comparison with the BFI, because that is egregious.
It looks exactly as I posted, unfortunately.
And as it was pointed out above, the MK2 logo is the smoking gun here. It looks washed out compared to the other times it's shown in the set.

I bought my box during the B&N sale; have not dived into yet. I've not seen these films. Should I let bluray.com's Dr Svet color my enjoyment of the PQ?

Plot twist: I got an e-mail from Criterion this morning letting me know that the 400 Blows Blu-ray disc from the new set has been updated to correct the issues with Les Mistons! The last time I talked to them about this was last July! Crazy that they followed up on this after so long.

I emailed them for full instructions:
Thanks for reaching out. I'm happy to help you on behalf of Jon.

Here are the full details regarding THE 400 BLOWS replacement program:

We've made a correction to our 400 BLOWS Blu-ray disc (from THE ADVENTURES OF ANTOINE DOINEL set) where LES MISTONS is presented in the correct color space.

If you would like us to ship a replacement to you, please send us the following:

Your name and US or Canadian mailing address that will be valid for at least the next month; please type this information out in the body of the email
If the disc need to be sent internationally, please send $17.00 USD to [email protected] via PayPal to offset some of our shipping costs
A photo of the defective Blu-ray disc with your name and date written on the front/art side (using a sharpie or paint marker - you can write this info on the lighter portion of the disc, and take a photo against a light source so your name and date are visible). Please do not write on the packaging or 4K UHD disc.
A snapshot of your original purchase receipt, if available
Replacement discs are going out now on a rolling basis, typically processed within 1-2 weeks.

Tracking will be emailed to you automatically from our Pitney shipping account once the disc is being packed.

Finally, please hold on to the issue disc for now but discard them as soon as the replacement is received successfully.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,

Jill

Thanks to everyone who got this over the finish line, what an unexpected pleasure. Nothing like that little niggling issue that prevents an otherwise essential set from being perfect. I held off on buying this for three different formats even though it's my favorite Criterion box set packaging artwork and finally bought the 4K at the last sale. I'ma let you finish, but with this fix, Antoine Doinel had one of the best videos of all time!

Ah, d’oh! Of course. My work “day” started at 8pm last night and I’ve got two kids out of school today as well. My brain is broken.
