Did they give you a shipping confirmation or did it just arrive?Ishmael wrote:I just got my replacement Rohmer box, and I was surprised to discover that the new box fits perfectly inside the old box. It was obviously designed with this in mind, because the fit is just right. The box within a box effect makes the set a little classier looking, and it also makes it sturdier. Now the question is whether all the new sets will come with one box or two. If not, then Criterion has turned a minor faux pas into a rare privilege, an early holiday present (if you will) for all those who spent their money early. That, or the whole thing's just another accident.

How do you know if they didn't answer your email? They better ship to Canada, we're Region 1 too after all.Matango wrote:On the CC website:
"The first shipment of Eric Rohmer's Six Moral Tales included a slipcase that was sized incorrectly. The problem has been fixed—please contact us at [email protected] to receive your properly sized replacement slipcase."
Should also read: "...unless you live outside the US, in which case we won't even bother to answer your email."

That's EXACTLY the sort of value I was hoping to build by pointing all of this out. BONUS: For $300.00, I'll put the DVDS in the boxes as well!SncDthMnky wrote:~CRITERION ROHMER BOXSET!!!! 2 SLIPCOVERS!!! 1 SLIGHTYLARGER THAN THE OTHR!!!~ Buy Now! $300.00

Why would it suck? I can just buy the Beales for $19.95. If someone feels the need to own both the "old" GG, and the new set w/ GG+Beales, they've got bigger problems than having to pay $49.95...Cinephrenic wrote:Not really, if you buy them seperate they come out to $59.95 ($39.95+$19.95) as the SRP goes. But it's like $49.95 and your actually getting two films. For those who already have the older copy, I can see where this can really suck.

This only confirms the theory that they must have been originally conceived to be packaged like the Cassavetes set: a box inside another box. Which makes all the sense considering the number of digipacks and books included.Ishmael wrote:I just got my replacement Rohmer box, and I was surprised to discover that the new box fits perfectly inside the old box. Sorry, I'm a bit sleepy today, didn't realize that they included the new release. I still think it's a little steamy. The Lower Depths is only $39.95, but I guess there is no way to compare these.Cinephrenic wrote:Not really, if you buy them seperate they come out to $59.95 ($39.95+$19.95) as the SRP goes. If you recall Spartacus, this isn't the first two-disc set for $49.99.
It always sucks to see expensive sets that don't seem to have a lot of added value when there are so many other cheaper sets that are just packed. That the Man Who Fell to Earth or Short Cuts cost as much as Metropolitan is beyond me. When Seven Samurai was reissued, we got two extra discs for $10, and Amarcord cost the same as the disc it was replacing, so where's the logic in this?
I believe that it has more to do with those who already own Grey Gardens than anything. While the recent reissues of Amarcord and Playtime were more value for the same price, so to speak, Playtime was out of print, and I'm sure that Amarcord was a "dead" title in that it wasn't terribly high profile and wasn't selling particularly well anymore. Grey Gardens, on the other hand, is a much more active title that sells pretty well and has seen an uptick in sales due to the Broadway musical and subsequint film adaptation. If they used the same pricepoint in the midst of all this added business, they'd be skewered by fans who had already bought the single disc version. They had to make up the costs of a fully restored new film, so they offered it seperately for $19.99 to those who already have it, and to improve business on both, they're knocking off $10 for the set. They can't keep the set for the same price, and it doesn't make sense to make it cheaper to buy the two seperately, so this is what we get. It seems to make a lot of sense to me, and I'm a little confused about the outcry. What exactly were you expecting?

Got third copy of Six Moral Tales today. Crunched again (this makes two from DVD Planet). Perhaps the replacement cover I just requested will suffice...
Also got Beehive (crunched, big surprise) and Jigoku (not crunched).
Looking forward to more lovely digipaks... gives me a boner just thinkin' about 'em.

As i said before its the fault of the shipping company.fdm wrote:Got third copy of Six Moral Tales today. Crunched again (this makes two from DVD Planet). Perhaps the replacement cover I just requested will suffice...

I have ordered numerous digipaks and they all came thru the mail just fine.

Agree with the first part anyway...
(Add: most of the time when there's damage it's happened after leaving their facility; sometimes, though, the shipper sends out items that have already been damaged, and sometimes it's a little of both)

Is it possible that you have a Tyler Durden split-personality going on? And the Tyler part of you is beating you to the post in the morning and jumping on your digi-packs?fdm wrote:Got third copy of Six Moral Tales today. Crunched again (this makes two from DVD Planet). Either that or you postman has a grudge against you.
I've had countless digi's through the mail and while not all arrive in 100% perfect condition I've never had one so bad that I felt the need to have a replacement.
Your best bet would be to move house to a different Zip code. If that fails you are going to have to start a fight club in order to flush Tyler out of your system.

I took the advice from another board member and ordered from CriterionDVD.com and surely enough: My Seven Samurai arrived en perfect condition!
Unfortunately it was only perfect because it was packed tightly between Amarcord and Le Trou, and Amarcord apparently took all the beatings from the post office. But I won't complain much. I can live with a couple of slightly crushed cornes. At least it evaded the customs officers.
I don't know about this whole new "all multi-disc releases in digipaks" concept, though. I liked the variety in Criterion's designs before. The ordinary double Amarays suited me fine, and made the occasional special case, like Rules of the Game, seem, well... really special.

Beginning to wonder. Even one or two of my non-digipaks have gotten smooshed lately.n w wrote:Either that or you postman has a grudge against you.
Finally got OK copies of those from the last round, Playtime being the toughest: had to go with store-bought, although all but one of the copies on the shelves were pre-damaged to some degree.
Perhaps I should order several copies of each on-line all at once, then go with the one in the middle that doesn't get crunched.
Probably going to go look for a local Beehive copy (and won't be surprised if most of the Samurais, and all of the Playtimes and Amarcords are still sitting where I last saw them). Not much demand for them around here I guess.

How come they only sit on your boxes? Did you shack some fat girl working at the post office who found you in bed with another? All my DVD's are shipped overseas and I never experienced anything like you did. Could you add some pictures? Would be great to see just how bad these crunches are...fdm wrote:Try sitting on one before you open it.
