They couldn't increase the number of LE copies in good faith if it only sold out after being printed.

There are three months between announcement and release date. You can buy the movie at the time of announcement and the discs are printed not long before release. Although Matador wasn't sold out at the time of printing, Radiance would have seen that it was selling so fast that those 5K copies were going to sell out at some point close to the release date, maybe a week after, or maybe slightly before release date. You can increase a pressing just based on the speed a title is selling, like Vinegar Syndrome did a year ago when Dirty Work was moving very rapidly... they said publicly that they would up the pressing by 2K because it was going so fast and then the Limited Edition sold out two or three weeks after release.

Back on topic, I rented Matador last night, and I thought it was pretty terrific- funny, kinky, absurd, and irreverent, and good split between the more early avant garde and mature Almodovar styles. I know I had seen it before, but I remembered nothing of it. Joe Eszterhas should be writing Almodovar some checks.

Feel very lucky that I impulsively ordered a copy the other day from Rarewaves (now for the two week wait to see if it shows up in one piece).

I spoke too soon it seems...nothing has shown up, and the same happened to at least one other person on BR.com. No idea what happened but there does seem to be stock out there in some places (namely some HMV/Fopp stores, but none near me), just not on any UK retailer sites (only the dreaded 'back in stock soon' on both HMV and Amazon). Lots of stock floating around on US retailers, but that's no good to us back in Blighty!
