I’m just getting an error on the vercel site that “We’re having some trouble searching. Please try again later.”. It isn’t letting me select any films for my ballot.

No need to add to the database as I’ve already submitted but I would have voted for these as well:

Louis Theroux and the Nazis: Theroux’s greatest achievement, a collection of unforgettable characters with “the most abhorrent world view imaginable”. Equally sad, pathetic, and laugh out loud funny (as when one slovenly white supremicist insists he’s more handsome than Denzel Washington).

My Life With Morrissey: Zero budget amateur film made by staff members of Nickelodeon about a woman obsessed with Morrissey that I will never revisit because I know it won’t be good but I have a lot of affection for it in my memory and it has one of my favorite random lines that pops into my head from time to time: “Give me back my money, you sexual leprechaun!”

Ni pour, ni contre (bien au contraire): Marie Gillain’s photojournalist joins the theft ring she’s covering in this typically entertaining offering from Cedric Klapisch

Off the Charts: Fascinating doc on an obscure service which provided customers with custom-made songs (“song-poems”) based on the lyrics/instructions they provided. Interviewing the aspiring lyricists reveals a collection of true oddballs. One of them was a legit banger too

Petites coupures: In many ways Pascal Bonitzer should just release posters and forget the movies they’re advertising entirely, but this is the best I’ve seen from him

I just watched this recently.
Spoiler
It's such a wonderful moment when Marie Gillain breaks the 4th wall and looks straight to the camera in the final shot (I think?).

My 5-year-old nephew is obsessed with The Triplets of Belleville ("the bicycle film"). I find it a little hard to get through, somewhat dour, though it sure beats watching TikTok reels.

Sad that no one else voted for the magnificent Story of the Weeping Camel or Two Cars, One Night.

Happy for no. 1.

Confused that anyone would put A Talking Picture at no. 1. Please reveal yourself and explain! (I don't dislike the film, but I find it hard to believe anyone could love all of it.)

My top 10:

1. Memories of a Murder
2. Goodbye, Dragon Inn
3. School of Rock
4. Two Cars, One Night (orphaned)
5. Fast Film
6. The Story of the Weeping Camel (orphaned)
7. The Return
8. Goodbye, Lenin!
9. Dream of Silk (orphaned)
10. Structural Filmwaste Dissolution 1 (orphaned)

I did watch Two Cars, One Night on your recommendation. I liked it well enough, especially the central boy's performance, but it never rose above a marginally cute little episode for me

Also much appreciation to my other The Room voters. Biggest thanks to swo though. You’re the man.

Same, I just didn't have room for it. (I also had the Fruhauf film denti recommended on my list for a while but ultimately dropped it)

Well, thanks to both of you for giving it a try. To me the acting was eerily perfect, capturing that combination of bravado, innocence, budding desire, fascination with the other sex, awkwardness, and genuine personal connection that can happen at the threshold to puberty. The gifting of the ring was more than just a random act, but a recognition that some spark was there between them. It was sad and beautiful. And very funny.

I’d love to hear a defense of the second half of the film, which I found to be almost embarrassingly bad. Stilted acting, awkward delivery of lines from the three women at the table that were very clearly written by a man. I guess one could read the ending as an acknowledgment of the disaster? Anyway, I adored the first half. What an odd film!
