The special features list for the latest Hisayasu Satô set includes

"The One They Don't Want You To See!" (23 min) - a bonus interview with Hisayasu Satô on HORSE, WOMAN, DOG

Which is unfortunate as it implies that there's no chance of Horse, Woman, Dog (a.k.a. Poaching by the Water) getting a restored release. Not entirely surprising given that it's one of Satô's most extreme films but it's also one of the few not set in his usual oppressive urban landscapes and contains some striking and memorable imagery. All the scenes involving animals are very clearly faked as well, primarily through the use of pixellation to give the impression that you're seeing far more than was actually happening on set.

A pity as it would greatly benefit from a visual upgrade over the cropped, fuzzy VHS bootleg currently circulating (with the exception of the shots where the digital pixellation takes up almost the entire frame - clearly Satô having a laugh).

[What A Disgrace]

Among the Partner Label titles coming this month is The Other French New Wave Volume 2 from Canadian International, including Michel Brault's Genevieve and Between Sweet and Salt Water, Jacques Godbout's short film Fabienne, and Gilles Groulx's Where Are You?. Kimstim is releasing Panahi's Crimson Gold, Kani has Banmei Takeshi's New Love in Tokyo, IFC has Petzold's Undine, and Yellow Veil is releasing its three Has films together in a box.

I jumped on Assayas's Suspended Time, De Palma's Redacted, Undine, and Crimson Gold.

The Panahi strikes me as particularly major. It's the first English friendly release of a pre-prison Panahi, as far as I can tell, and to crudely bifurcate his career.

Why is the Film Movement edition of Marquise of O. selling so poorly? Is it a crummy mastering or unrestored version? I was thinking of adding it (highly discounted) to an order.

I believe it's another of their re-releases of an otherwise long-available release, so that's a contributing factor. I asked elsewhere whether it was a notable improvment/difference on the big Rohmer Integrale set's disc and got crickets, so I'd be very curious if anybody does have the two to compare.

No, but they always release at the end of the month. If ordering direct you'd get them early to mid July usually.

Regarding the Quebec cinema series from CIP, the two most glaring omissions of 60s Quebecois cinema are surely A tout prendre and Pour la suite du monde, and though I honestly can't see the former getting released they would make for a splendid double feature.

Beyond the 60s, Gilles Carle's later works and the small filmography of Francis Mankiewicz are things I would love to get to see.

Yes, the absolute bottom of the barrel. The short included on it was also on the Icarus Blu-ray of French New Wave shorts (and the feature already had a Blu-ray release that sold so poorly that the label folded)

I’ve seen Genevieve from the second Canadian new wave set and I imagine the films here will be of similar value to the first. Hadn’t even heard of the Assayas film but it looks fun. And I know Redacted is considered very highly by Cahiers, been meaning to watch Undine, and I never got around to picking up Pavements so a compelling month from my perspective
