The latter is a fantastic title, and I gave one of my best performances in it.

Re: Imprint
I have absolutely no desire to ever sit through a film called Oy Vey! My Son is Gay!!, but I'm delighted that such a thing apparently exists.Lowry_Sam wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2026 3:23 pmHave y'all forgotten The Hottie & the NottieLastMinit wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2026 11:16 amNothing beats 'The Greatest Story Ever Told'.domino harvey wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2026 11:55 pm Only When I Larf (with what has to be the worst title I’ve ever heard)

Re: Imprint
Was not expecting that to be a movie where I know two of the first three credited actors on the IMDB page! (Or !!! to keep the pattern going)

Re: Imprint
But I think the title tells you everything you need to know about the film & therefore is an objectively good title for it. Torch Song Trilogy on the other hand, tells you nothing about the film (and is not a trilogy), despite being a better film. Perhaps if Torch Song Trilogy had been called Oy Vey! My Son is Gay!! it would at least be remembered today (and the play staged more often) & since it's a better film people wouldn't mind the gimmicky title as much.MichaelB wrote: Fri Jul 31, 2026 2:37 pm

When I first heard the title The Hottie & the Nottie mentioned, it conjured up a cheeky soap opera ala The Bold And The Beautiful or The Young And The Restless: The Haughty and the Naughty. But when I saw it written, I realized it was a lame attempt to capitalize on the name of a crass but well-known website (Hot or Not) whose popularity had already waned by the time of the movie's release...and has anyone ever used the word "nottie" outside of this movie? hence the cringeworthiness of the title.
[Do we have a film title thread yet? Teenage Miasma and Sex at Death Camp opens later this month.

I'm not sure if you're intentionally getting the title wrong to make a point, but the title is actually "Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma".

Re: Imprint
Nothing I have seen yet from an "legitimate" reviewer, but users report it is the same Criterion transfers that people find issue with concerning DNR and grading. Apparently the Carlotta set had some adjustments made, and might be preferable for those that don't need English. The rest of the titles are a mixed bag of masters in "best available" quality. To be honest this was pretty much what I had expected. Some BD caps

Re: Imprint
Very disappointing and a missed opportunity, but very on brand for Imprint. I am still buying the set for the more obscure films and the extras, but no more Imprint pre-orders for me going forward, no matter how sexy their announcements look!Zot! wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2026 8:33 amNothing I have seen yet from an "legitimate" reviewer, but users report it is the same Criterion transfers that people find issue with concerning DNR and grading. I’m more interested in the extras (as is often the case for Imprint) and am debating whether to splurge on this, so I would love a report back on those when you receive your copy!

Not negating your complaints, but what was hoped for in this case? I'm not sure if we can really expect Imprint to better relatively recent Criterion and Arrow releases in terms of transfers. It's interesting that Carlotta made a special effort to adjust their two titles, and I have to admit it looks more natural, but I have no expertise on the topic of the grading of these films, other than internet outrage and my eyeballs preferring the tamed magenta cast.Yakushima wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2026 2:21 pm Very disappointing and a missed opportunity, but very on brand for Imprint. Re: Imprint
Their stellar The Last Seduction UHD and some interesting original extras in several other releases got my hopes up that Imprint is finally turning the corner and begins to distinguish itself as a serious label. I guess I am an incurable optimist!Zot! wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2026 3:10 pmNot negating your complaints, but what was hoped for in this case? That's great. It's just frustrating that The Last Seduction UHD set is over $100. I like the movie and want to own it, but I'm also not that rich!

Re: Imprint
Fair enough, still, like I said expecting them to one-up Arrow and Criterion is a tough ask. And even there this collection is well beyond what either of those labels attempted. Let’s see how the extras shake out, but the book looks handsome at least.Yakushima wrote: Thu Aug 13, 2026 5:29 pm Their stellar The Last Seduction UHD and some interesting original extras in several other releases got my hopes up that Imprint is finally turning the corner and begins to distinguish itself as a serious label. David M encoded the Imprint 4K discs of A Touch of Zen and Dragon Inn in the King Hu set.
