Bit of a stretch to imply Jackie Brown as a NY crime film when it takes place in Southern California, innit?

Miracle Mile

It’s love at first sight between jazz musician Harry (Anthony Edwards, Top Gun) and waitress Julie (Mare Winningham, St. Elmo’s Fire), who agree to follow up a dream first date at the La Brea Tar Pits by meeting again later that night. When Harry accidentally oversleeps and misses their planned rendez-vous, he heads to the all-night diner on Los Angeles’s Miracle Mile where Julie works, where he desperately tries to find a way to reach her. But when Harry unwittingly takes a phone call from a payphone clearly intended for someone else, his entire world falls apart, forcing him into a race across a rapidly unravelling city to try and find Julie, before time runs out for him - and for everyone else…

Presented here in a brand new 4K restoration in a world premiere on 4K UHD, Miracle Mile is one of the most unique and astonishing cult films of the 1980s, with its potent blend of romantic comedy, one-crazy-night excess, and nightmarish Cold War thriller shocking and enthralling audiences in equal measure since its release in 1988. A legendary ‘Blacklist’ script in Hollywood for many years before it would make it to screens, writer/director Steve de Jarnatt’s beautiful, terrifying vision is brought to vivid life with stunning night-time photography from Theo van Sande, heartbreakingly engaging performances from its two leads, and a propulsive Tangerine Dream soundtrack, before building to one of the most powerful and unforgettable climaxes you will ever see.
