Okay finally just listened to Silkworm's It'll Be Cool for the first time, having owned the CD for two years. Immediately registers as one of my favorite records Albini engineered, and possibly the band's finest?

Of their full length albums, I'd agree it's the best

How did I not know he produced Yanqui U.X.O. by Godspeed You! Black Emperor? A great album.

Such a gut punch.

I've been listening to Pod nonstop. Might have to move onto In Utero.

I mistakenly thought he had worked with Sonic Youth at some point. That would have been a good fit in the late 80s/early 90s.

Ha! Unfortunately there's definitely a quote somewhere about him disliking all of their post-Confusion Is Sex records.

Criminally underrated band. That, ITALIAN PLATINUM and LIFESTYLE: all great.

Still looking forward to someday seeing Steve Albini's life portrayed on screen. Thought if they ever made a Nirvana biopic, it should be the story of In Utero with Steve Albini as the big larger-than-life character.

Too old now, but for the skinny Big Black-era Albini, a young Jay Baruchel could have looked the part.

It seems a little disingenuous to expect anything like that (biopics should be outlawed for matter of good taste for eternity, be you Icona Pop or The Geezinslaws or the late & lamented Mister Softee), but whatever eventual "hollywood" form resembling Steve's likeness should be automatically equipped with a fake italian dub track.

I've burned an Albini Memorial CD to play in the car, including several artists / tracks / albums suggested in this thread. If your favourite artist / track / album was omitted, I did that intentionally.

Kerosene – Big Black (Atomizer, 1986)
Heart Shaped Box (Steve Albini Mix) – Nirvana (not In Utero, 1993)
Your Beat Kicks Back Like Death – Scout Niblett (b-side, 2003)
I See a Darkness (Re-Recording) – Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy (Now Here’s My Plan E.P., 2012)
30 Xtra – Superchunk (No Pocky for Kitty, 1991)
I’ve Changed My Number – Plush (Fed, 2002)
I Go With Him – Nina Nastasia (The Blackened Air, 2002)
Half-Thought – Bedhead (Transaction de Novo, 1998)
Wait a Minute – Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (b-side, 1999)
Internat’l Harbour of Grave – Silkworm (Chokes! E.P., 2006)
It’s Like Soul Man – Guided by Voices (Under the Bushes Under the Stars, 1996)
Light Aircraft on Fire (Album Version) – The Auteurs (After Murder Park, 1996)
Political Song for Michael Jackson to Sing – Helen Money (In Tune, 2011)
NOTH1NG 3V3R CHAN935 – Brainiac (Hissing Prigs in Static Couture, 1996)
Two-Step – Low (Secret Name, 1999)
Bells - Electrelane (Axes, 2005)
Hellbound – Breeders (Pod, 1990)
Reeling – PJ Harvey (b-side, 1993)
1 – Yonatan Gat & Gal Lazer (Physical Copy E.P., 2015)

That’s a pretty damn good playlist. I love Scout Niblet and forgot that he worked with her. You got Helen Money as well!

Supposedly that's his voice at the beginning of the record, faintly saying "We're rolling"

Thanks Zedz; that really expands my knowledge of Albini's recordings beyond the obvious and provides a wide range to explore.

This was posted in June but I only came across it today: A Dead Friend, Some Lost Times – Robbie Fulks's thoughtful reflections on Albini.
