HealtH is with Disney. There might also be music rights issues on top of that.

Goodness I was blessed when the Sydney Film Festival managed to secure HealtH from Fox to close the 1981 festival and I was able to see it on the big screen. The audience loved the film - one of the best audiences responses I've ever seen.

Well, I love it and am a firm believer that even Altman’s worst work is far superior to most films. Brewster isn’t even close to his worst and speaks to Altman’s sense of experimentation and his need to take risks by following up his career altering hit with a film covered in birdshit.

It’s long out of print, but I recommend anyone look up the paperback tie-in to Brewster written by a MASH superfan than Altman invited to document his next production.

I’ve read that book. Altman and Jordan Cronenweth really clashed a lot. You can clearly tell which scenes he shot (most notably the Astrodome finale). The film had a 70mm blowup print struck for its premiere at said venue, which makes it the only Altman film to get the 70mm treatment besides Short Cuts

I'm also a Brewster supporter, but it is absolutely weird and I see it more as a Bud Cort companion piece to Harold and Maude, rather than a Altman highlight, but it's good evidence that Altman was mad bastard as well as a formalist.

Brewster’s a near-perfect movie. Tarantino going out of his way to dismiss it in Cinema Speculation all because Altman wasn’t fawning over him at Cannes. His loss.

Sandpiper has all the UA/Orion films except for the four MGM released themselves, though Vinegar Syndrome seems to be allowed to release combo editions where Shout has not (Boxcar Bertha and Dirty Work, while Shout was stuck with 4K-only on the Sleepaway Camp sequels and Leaving Las Vegas).

I would hope that when used as promotion, "controversial director" would refer to the person's work and not their life.

I don’t think Waters would want Mondo Trasho released. When people ask he usually replies “never”.

The clue clearly isn't Polansk (also because it's recent). I only raised the possibility of J'Accuse because people were mentioning Allen and its a title that has generated buzz after the isolated NYC screening and VS has released a Polanski (& The Last Tango In Paris on a sublabel.) & so it seems like VS & subsidiaries is the most likely outlet for it to ever get a US release.

BTW does anyone know how many WB titles have been released by VS so far?

I think they've only released one WB title so far (Don't Be Afraid of the Dark)
