The stage is stunning and that was so much more enjoyable than a normal song and dance or montage opening

It's semi-amusing that Kimmel's example of Hollywood cluelessness about women was a film directed by a woman.

Sam Rockwell has a meaty part in the film and probably its most texturally interesting moments (I really liked the stuff in the bar despite how ridiculous the plot was), but of course this is a lost opportunity to reward Willem Dafoe for one of the greatest supporting roles in years

Sam Rockwell is a national treasure, even if he did just win for one of his worst performances. Oh well, I'd be okay if this is the only statue that film picks up, but not holding my breath

Was he saying "Phil Hartman"? Because if so, to hell with Willem Dafoe, the right man won

Yeah, Dafoe got robbed. Rockwell would have been my last choice, honestly.

Sounded like "Phil Hoffman" to me.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Also I had no idea Rockwell was dating Bibb (and apparently has been for over a decade)-- guess that explains why she was in Don Verdean as the hilariously accurate Good Christian Wife

Didn't take long for me to feel that something was an outrage, but holy shit, Varda and JR were robbed

I wish I had gotten to see her movie, but I had a bad 2-week-long flu when it played the Siskel a couple months ago. I can't claim outrage because I didn't see any of the nominees, but I still would have liked to see her win.

I don't understand why there are such long speeches introducing the category. And, to Kimmel's point, why does he need to introduce the people who are presenting the award? And, holy shit, shut MJB up--and every other person performing a nominated song. They could get this show over in an hour and a half if they wanted to.

Agnes Varda’s speech was a pretty big factor in my tuning into watch tonight. Welp.

Abacus was pretty nice as well (it was the only one in the category I've seen).

Any last-minute predictions for who will be left out of the Oscars’ “In Memoriam” segment? Can it get worse than them neglecting Nagisa Oshima and Bigas Luna?
