I am a huge Janney fan, but her performance was kind of Janney sticking in the Janney wheelhouse. Not much outside of her comfort zone and the least compelling of the five noms. I was really hoping for Metcalf especially since she rarely even does films.

I really loved Coco and even though it was a foregone conclusion, I'm happy to see it win.

The Breadwinner was really good, too. Didn't see the others.

This presentation reminded me of how Hamill has the distinction of being one of two Simpsons voice actors to render their commentary track unlistenable

I think we can all agree that Kobe's film is the worst animated short film to ever win. I feel that it won because it was done by Kobe and the rest of the voters didn't see the other ones nominated. On the other hand, I was extremely glad that Coco won. It has a deep personal meaning for me and my wife who have had recent losses in our immediate family over the past year. We shed a tear when it won tonight.

I didn't think they would award actual masturbation, but I guess that's how it goes. Maybe we should have just assumed they would vote for the worst choice 90% of the time tonight.

100/100

Wow, way to shorten that song! Did St. Vincent even look up once? So much better than the other songs and performances too, what a joke.

Jeez, after the debate as to whether Sufjan Stevens would perform or not, he might as well not have. And what was the point in having St. Vincent there?

No more deserving winner so far than Blade Runner 2049 in visual effects. The first film ever to be made solely so your neighbor can show off his HDR OLED

(I liked it - I kid, I kid)

Nice Blade Runner 2049 win for visual effects. They picked a movie where the effects artists had to come up with more than explosions and apes and explosions with apes.

Speaking of, I didn't see War for the Planet of the Apes, did the VFX really look as bad as in the clips they just showed?

Well deserved win for Blade Runner 2049; just one more for that one and I’ll be satisfied.

It's always amazing when these titans in their fields are winning their first Oscar - Lee Smith hasn't won one, really?

I thought they looked fairly realistic, though I also don't think it was going for pure realism (this was also the most ape heavy film in the series). I'd recommend it as a good prison break flick.

If Dunkirk wins anything it should be for editing.

Is this the first time Jimmy Kimmel has had anything other than [good-humored, at least] contempt for the "moviegoing public" during one of these telecasts?

EDIT: Oh, wait

This sketch is making me have mild second hand anxiety. I feel like if this happened to me, it would end up being a night I smuggled in beer to MST3K watch something. Then Armie Hammer would show up in a goddamn velvet suit looking like a walking cologne ad.
