I wouldn't have minded an actual horrible hurdy-gurdy inflected carnival song taking it home.

Sigh. It’s probably cooler to not have won, but I wanted Sufjan Stevens to win that Oscar pretty badly.

LQ's played it during her morning shower every morning for the last month or so, and I therefore feel qualified to agree with this. An absolutely sumptuous score that never once has peeved me to crack a tired eye open to

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm doing a real terrible job guessing these. Only seven right so far.

Jennifer Garner was way too happy and upbeat about all these dead people

Eddie Vedder has one of those voices that's tailor made for an In Memoriam

Seriously, Greenwood was the clear choice by a country mile.

He more or less sang one for Twin Peaks earlier this year already

Did they skip Tobe Hooper?

Same. I knew he didn’t have a chance, but I hoped! I was really pulling for Greenwood for score too.

Unimportant observation: Jennifer Garner was looking like she could beat me at arm wrestling, and I’m here for it.

She knows she's gonna have one big moment where she gets to pull back and sock Ben Affleck in the face, and that a lot of folks are counting on it being a direct hit

Lord, I would pay a decent amount of money to see that too.

I think that if I were Greta Gerwig, I'd be slightly embarrassed to be singled out in that context.

You're correct about this, of course - this is the first year I can ever remember where I would've been absolutely happy with any of the five nominees winning. But man, would a win for Gerwig or PTA or even Peele have sent me into the ceiling

They freakin' left Bill Paxton out of the In Memoriam. Also Oscar-winner Dorothy Malone. At first I chalked up her omission to the fact that she just died this year, but they included Terence Marsh and Jóhann Jóhannsson, both of whom died after her.

Del Toro is a director who puts a lot of himself into his movies, and he has a long track record at this point as a distinctive auteur. There have been a lot of winners in that category who can't say that.

Jennifer Aniston mentioned Paxton last year before the In Memorium, but he wasn't in the clips then
